News Summary

Chattanooga is gearing up for significant road improvements with a total investment of $161 million for the Interstate 24/75 split project and $54 million for state Highway 60. These projects aim to enhance safety and efficiency for commuters by 2025, along with temporary lane closures scheduled to minimize disruptions during construction. The city promises no lane closures during the holiday season, ensuring smoother travels for all residents. With ongoing commitment to safety and timely project completion, Chattanooga’s roadways will see a positive facelift in the coming years.

Chattanooga Buzzes with Exciting Road Project Developments!

Good news for folks in Chattanooga! The city is buzzing with a flurry of construction and expansion projects aiming to improve our roadways by 2025. The total investment for these efforts is nothing to sneeze at—a whopping $161 million for just the second phase of the Interstate 24/75 split project! Isn’t that something to cheer about? Not only is this a sizable investment in infrastructure, but it promises to make our daily commutes much smoother and safer.

What’s Happening on Our Roads?

The excitement doesn’t stop there! In addition to the major Interstate project, there’s also the $54 million state Highway 60 project in Cleveland, TN, which is also on track for completion in 2025. This is fantastic news for residents and travelers alike, as the enhanced roads will surely make for an easier driving experience.

If you’re planning on hitting the roads, though, be prepared for a few changes. Nightly lane closures are set to take place from 9 PM to 6 AM on I-75 North and South, between Exit 1 (East Ridge) and Exit 3A (East Brainerd Road/SR-320). Similarly, I-24 East and West will experience closures from Germantown Road to Spring Creek Road (MM182 to MM185). This means that if you’re planning any late-night drives, you might want to give yourself some extra time.

Holiday Travel Plans? You’re Covered!

To keep everyone merry over the holidays, it’s worth noting that there will be no lane closures from December 23 to January 1. So, if you’re traveling to see family or simply indulging in some holiday shopping, you can do so without worrying about road construction. What a nice little treat!

Keeping You Safe!

As we navigate these changes, the city is committed to safety. Uniformed police officers will be stationed in work zones to help manage traffic and keep disruptions to a minimum. Their presence is just another way of saying that we’re all in this together, and they’re working hard to keep everyone safe and moving smoothly.

Temporary Disruptions Ahead

Be ready for the occasional rolling roadblock during the day or night. These are necessary for activities like patching potholes, clearing debris, and guardrail repairs. It’s a small hassle for a big benefit in keeping our roads in great shape! Additionally, lane closures will impact portions of the left lane on North and South Terrace between Belvoir Avenue and Spring Creek Road as construction progresses on drainage, sewer, retaining, and noise wall work.

Utility Work and More

Utility work is scheduled on SR-2 (Lee Hwy) from near McKay’s to General Shale Brick & Building Materials with flagging operations and lane restrictions taking place on December 18 and 19, 2024. Expect more shoulder and lane closures on SR-58 between Oak Hill Drive and Murray Hills Drive from December 16 to 20, 2024. Additionally, daily lane closures could pop up along I-124 (US-27) in Hamilton County due to contractor work.

What About Those Senior Interchanges?

There are some important updates at the Hamilton Place Mall interchange too! The SR-153 southbound ramp to I-75 northbound has now been reduced to one lane, which might delay your shopping trips. Ongoing maintenance will be taking place on bridges, including construction and drainage improvements in several counties. Talk about a busy time ahead!

Final Words of Caution

With utility work and resurfacing operations underway on multiple highways, including SR-60, SR-30, and other local roads, drivers should be prepared for some temporary traffic disruptions. The contractor will even be cleaning the Bachman Tubes, which will close one lane in each direction on the designated cleaning date. As always, it’s a good idea to reduce speed and exercise caution when driving through these work zones. Safety is key!

Our roads are getting an exciting facelift, so let’s buckle up, be patient, and enjoy the ride into a smoother driving future!
