Chattanooga Community Mourns the Passing of Carolyn Sivley Wells at Age 89
Chattanooga, Tennessee is feeling a profound sense of loss as it bids farewell to a beloved community member, Carolyn Sivley Wells, who passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 17, 1935, Carolyn was a lifelong resident of this charming city, where she not only grew up but also made a lasting impact through her work and community involvement.
Carolyn was the cherished daughter of Alma Boyd and Grover Sivley, and she graduated from Red Bank High School in 1953. Over the years, she held various positions, including working as an executive secretary at Parkridge Hospital and at WDEF. Yet, her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she launched her own venture, Carolyn’s Temporary Service, which she successfully ran for an impressive 27 years.
Among those who knew her, Carolyn was celebrated for her exceptional work ethic and her remarkable ability to connect with people. Friends and family have often shared their fond recollections of her generous heart, especially when it came to her love of cooking. Carolyn was renowned for her delicious creations, particularly her famous cheesecakes, strawberry bread, and pumpkin rolls, which were often highlights at family gatherings.
When not busy in the kitchen or running her business, Carolyn had a passion for shopping, often seen browsing the aisles of Talbots and Home Goods. She adored jewelry and indulged in her sweet tooth, especially for ice cream. More than anything, Carolyn cherished spending quality time with her family. Her love language was gift giving, and friends and loved ones will fondly remember her thoughtful gestures and kindness.
Carolyn was a valued member of the Stuart Heights Baptist Church, where she embedded herself into the community, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and friendship. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Grover “Butch” Sivley, sister Cynthia Mahieu, and daughter Karen Morgan. Interestingly, her brother, Dr. Robert Sivley, passed away just 12 hours after her, marking an incredibly emotional time for the family.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Kim Wells and Leslie (Jennifer) Wells, along with her son-in-law, Bill Morgan. Her family continues to grow with grandchildren including Dusty (Kendall) Morgan, Jayne Morgan, Logan (Katie) Wells, and Chandler (Chaz) Warren. Adding to the family circle are her great-grandchildren: Ruthie and Marshall Warren, Parker Morgan, Walker, Genevieve, and Maggie Wells. She is also survived by a niece, Lorrie Clark, and several nephews, keeping the family connections strong even in the face of loss.
Friends and family can pay their respects during the visitation scheduled for March 13, from 3-5 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace. Funeral services will follow promptly at 5 p.m. in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home. The family expresses deep love and heartfelt gratitude to Carolyn’s devoted caregivers, including Darla Mabry, Dorothy Johnson, Robin Norwood, and Darla Skinner, who ensured that she was lovingly cared for at Signal Mountain Senior Living.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Women Serving Christ fund at Stuart Heights Baptist Church.
