Taste of Black Chattanooga Celebrates Local Cuisine and Culture

On Thursday, February 22, 2024, a savory blend of cultures blossomed in Chattanooga‘s University Center Tennessee Room, where the third annual Taste of Black Chattanooga event was hosted.

Local Vendors Highlighted

Signature dishes from five local vendors were displayed at the festival, including Cold Fusions, Shey Natural Smoothies, Slim & Husky’s Pizza, The Island Vibe, and T.Rowe Creative Kitchen.

A Celebration of Black History Month

The event, which is part of the UTC Black History Month activities, was devised by the Student Success Programs. Its primary objective is to give the students an in-depth understanding of the rich and diverse local black food culture.

Crystal Edenfield, the director of Student Success Programs, mentioned that featuring local businesses of color is vital. She said, “We wanted to connect people with food, educate them with food and help them understand differences through food.”
