Richard John Wieczorek, Longtime Educator In The Georgia School System Passes Away at 91
Chattanooga, TN – A prominent figure in the Georgia schooling system, Richard John Wieczorek, 91, breathed his last on June 12, 2024. Known for his persistent spirit and devotion towards education, Wieczorek had a long career serving the Walker and Catoosa County school systems until his retirement in 1990.
Richard was born on Sept. 26, 1932, in Buffalo, NY, to Jan and Martha Wieczorek. He joined the Air Force in 1952 and was stationed in London, England, where he met his future wife, Eve Pelfrey, who was also serving in the Air Force. They got married in 1956 in Buffalo, NY, and subsequently relocated to Chattanooga in 1958.
Richard obtained his degree from the University of Chattanooga in 1964, thereafter moving to Lafayette, Ga., with Eve to pursue a career in education. Under his stewardship, many students flourished, and he earned respect among his peers for his commitment to the development of the students and the school community.
Beyond his professional contributions, Richard was an ardent sports enthusiast and golfer. He, along with Eve, were wanderlust souls and enjoyed exploring different parts of the globe together. Being a fluent Polish speaker, he had the privilege of being the official interpreter during multiple family trips to Poland.
Richard was blessed with a large family, with his wife Eve, a sister Christine, a son John, a daughter Madeline, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren surviving him. His family extended beyond blood relations as he nurtured strong bonds with many around him.

Funeral Arrangements
The North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, located on 5401 Highway 153, will hold the visitation on Monday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to noon. Following the visitation, there will be a burial ceremony at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave. at 1 p.m.
Richard’s life was an example of compassion and selflessness, and in his memory and maintaining his spirit of giving, the family has requested all to make any memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate.
The arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
