Upcoming Construction Related Road Closures Announced

CHATTANOOGA – The Chattanooga Division of Transportation has announced several upcoming construction-related road closures. These closures are set to impact several important areas of the city and are expected to cause significant disruptions to regular traffic.

Sewer Main Repairs, Broad Street Rebuilding, and Hotel Entrance Installation

Beginning from Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21, Oak Street near the intersection of Greenwood Drive will undergo a lane closure and lane shift to facilitate the repair of a sewer main. Traffic will continue to be maintained in both directions. However, drivers have been requested to proceed with caution and slow down within the work area.

Furthermore, the right, southbound lane of Broad Street between W. 13th Street and W. Main Street will be closed from Monday, June 17 through Friday, July 19. This closure aims to help facilitate the rebuilding of the curb and sidewalk at the new Food City site.

Additionally, the right, westbound lane of Shallowford Road near Napier Road will be closed from Monday, June 17 through Thursday, July 18, for the installation of a new hotel entrance.

Cancellations, Emergencies, and Other Closures

Initially scheduled construction work on Mocs Alumni Drive has been canceled for Monday, with no new dates announced for a later commencement.

Unexpected incidents arose during scheduled sewer construction on Igou Gap Road on Monday. Crews struck a water main, necessitating an overnight closure in the 7500 block of Igou Gap Road. Details concerning the resumption of regular construction will be broadcasted when available.

Other notable closures include E. 10th Street between Foster Street and Douglas Street, which will be closed on Tuesday, June 18, for the dedication of EPB’s 10th Street Mural. Similarly, River Street behind Bridgeview Apartments is also planned to be closed on Wednesday, June 19 from 7-10 a.m. for a crane lift installing new HVAC units. Traffic will detour via Frazier Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard.

Chattanooga’s Division of Transportation is urging citizens to check the updated map of event and road closures for full details of these activities and other projects underway in the public space. These construction-related activities reflect the city’s ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring safety for all its residents.

Acknowledging the inconvenience caused, authorities have requested citizens to plan their routes in advance and extend their cooperation during this period of construction. Traffic signs and officers will be in place to guide commuters on the changed routes, ensuring smooth traffic flow.
