Chattanooga Celebrates Arts Through New Grants

Chattanooga, a city bursting with local talent and creativity, is gearing up for an exciting year ahead in the arts community! Thanks to generous grants from ArtsBuild, a total of 14 fantastic projects are set to bring the magic of music, art, and theater to residents of all ages and backgrounds. This funding initiative, called the Community Cultural Connections grants, is aimed at making arts and culture more accessible to the community, focusing especially on under-served populations.

Supporting a Variety of Projects

From the vibrant vibe of the Chattanooga Hip Hop Summit to the timeless performances by Scenic City Shakespeare, the projects represent a rich tapestry of artistic expression that spans from downtown Chattanooga all the way to scenic Soddy Daisy, Lookout Valley, Brainerd, and beyond. The city’s diverse landscape and multifaceted communities ensure that there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

A Growing Opportunity for Local Artists

With the aim of not just enriching the local culture but also building connections across the community, ArtsBuild has opened its arms to proposals from not only Chattanooga but also the surrounding areas—encouraging creative projects from Harrison and the Highway 58 Corridor to Birchwood, Ooltewah, and again, Soddy Daisy. “We want to see the arts in every corner of our community,” shared James McKissic, President of ArtsBuild.

A Legacy of Generosity

Since its launch in 2013, the Community Cultural Connections program has awarded over 260 grants and distributed approximately half a million dollars to local projects. The impact of these funds is profound, with McKissic noting, “The arts not only inspire us and bring us joy, but also improve our well-being and help build stronger, healthier communities.” The joy and vibrancy that the arts bring to cities can often serve as a lifeline for communities and individuals seeking connection and expression.

A Strong Application Pool

It’s important to highlight that last year there was a remarkable array of applicants vying for funding, showcasing a rich sense of creativity and diversity within our artists and organizations. This level of enthusiasm speaks volumes about the importance of arts in Chattanooga and the desire of local artists to share their voices and talents with their communities.

Exciting news for local artists: applications for the FY 2025 Community Cultural Connections Grants are now officially open! If you or someone you know has a knack for creativity, consider applying and bringing your artistic vision to life! You can find all the necessary information on how to apply at the ArtsBuild website, so don’t miss this opportunity to contribute to our lively artistic landscape.

Community Support and Economic Impact

It’s also important to recognize the incredible support that makes these grants possible. ArtsBuild gratefully acknowledges the backing of several sponsors, including the Beacon Foundation Charitable Trust, the City of Chattanooga, the National Endowment for the Arts, and numerous generous donors who believe in the power of arts. Interestingly, it’s not just about artistic expression—the arts sector in Hamilton County plays a huge role in the economy, contributing a stunning $191 million annually and supporting over 3,000 jobs!

Come Together Through Creativity

As Chattanooga residents prepare for another year of vibrant cultural activities, it’s clear that the arts have a special way of bringing people together. Whether you are a performer, artist, or simply a lover of art, this initiative is a reminder of how deeply intertwined our community and culture are. Get involved, support local artists, and experience the true magic of what Chattanooga has to offer this coming year!
