Chattanooga Bids Farewell to Beloved Community Member Debbie Daugherty

Chattanooga, Tennessee, is feeling the loss of a warm and loving presence in the community as Deborah “Debbie” Daugherty peacefully passed away at the age of 71 in her home on September 16, 2024. Surrounded by her cherished family, she left this world with a heart full of love and a spirit that will be remembered by all who knew her.

Early Life and Career

Born on May 20, 1953, to Charles DeForest and Wilda Rhea Ewton Cummings, Debbie spent her life in the city she adored. She graduated from Kirkman High School in 1971 and went on to have an impressive career, dedicating 32 years of her life to the accounting department at Astec. Her work ethic and commitment were evident to everyone who crossed paths with her.

A Heart Full of Love

A true member of the Tyner Church of Christ, Debbie was not just known for her career. She was a vibrant soul, filled with a passion for life and a heart that welcomed everyone. She was fond of collecting costume jewelry and loved to treat herself to little treasures, all while sharing her joy with those she cared about. Family outings to the beach and lake brought her immense happiness, and she especially enjoyed dinners out with her loved ones. Her family lovingly referred to her as Nana, and she was the kind of mom that everyone admired—a big-hearted woman who could forgive with ease and showed boundless love in return.

Her Legacy and Memories

Debbie’s family reflects on the many beautiful moments they spent together. Survived by her children, Melody (Chris) Smith and Michael (Jennifer) Clark, as well as her adored grandchildren Marcus (Kayla) Pace, Mika (Emily) Clark, Mason Daugherty, Madalane Clark, and Mattix Childs, her legacy will brighter than ever through the generations. With great-grandchildren including Maclain “Charlie” Pace, Mattie Rhea Pace, Sutton Pace, Sammie Pace, Henley Pace, and Jayce Zearfus, her family tree blossomed from her love and guidance.

Final Arrangements

Debbie was preceded in death by her loving parents, her grandmother Beatrice Sherill, her brother Mark DeForest Cummings, and her sweet granddaughter Miranda Pace. The family has shared that Debbie was a forgiving person, and her loving spirit created bonds that will last through time. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on September 18. The visitation will begin at 3 p.m. leading up to a chapel service at Lane Funeral Home at 6 p.m.. The service will be live-streamed, allowing those who are unable to attend in person to partake in the celebration of her life.

A Community in Mourning

Chattanooga will miss Debbie greatly. Her vibrant personality, caring nature, and infectious laughter touched many hearts in her community. As her loving care gives way to a beautiful memory, friends are encouraged to share their condolences and stories with the Daugherty/Clark family during this difficult time. With deep appreciation for a life well-lived, Debbie Daugherty will be remembered as a true gem.
