Community Thanksgiving Feast

Join the Community at Gratefull’s Thanksgiving Luncheon in Chattanooga

Chattanooga is gearing up for a truly special event this November! Get ready to roll up your sleeves and gather around for a traditional Thanksgiving feast—just a week before the big day. That’s right, the city of Chattanooga will host a citywide luncheon called Gratefull on November 21 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. It will be held on the 200 block of East Martin Luther King Boulevard, where a long table will stretch down the street for all to enjoy.

What to Expect at Gratefull

This isn’t your average Thanksgiving meal; think of it as a wonderful opportunity to share food and stories with neighbors, friends, and even strangers. There are no fees, no expectations, and absolutely no agenda—just a genuine invitation to come together as a community.

Gratefull started back in 2014 in Chattanooga and has grown into a tradition in cities all across the country. The idea is simple yet profound: by shutting down a city block, people from various backgrounds can gather at a single long table to share a meal and connect with one another. It’s all about breaking down social barriers and fostering a sense of togetherness.

Celebrating Diversity in Chattanooga

Over the years, Gratefull has become known as one of the most culturally diverse and inclusive events in the city. The concept has now spread to other cities in the region including Milan, Nashville, Huntsville, and Dalton, creating a network of shared experiences across the southeast.

This year, Gratefull is being brought to life with the support of various local organizations working together. These include the River City Company, United Way of Greater Chattanooga, the City of Chattanooga, the Bessie Smith Cultural Center, and Causeway. Together, they aim to make this Thanksgiving gathering a memorable one for everyone involved.

Giving Back to the Community

Not only is this event about sharing a meal, but it’s also a chance to give back. Attendees are encouraged to bring supplies to help support the Maclellan Shelter for Families. On the day of the luncheon, there will be a collection bin available for donating items. If you’re wondering what to bring, they are in need of nonperishable food, coffee supplies, disposable plates and silverware, as well as hygienic supplies like toothpaste, diapers, and laundry essentials. Every little bit helps!

Volunteers Make It Happen

Of course, an event of this scale wouldn’t be possible without the help of dedicated volunteers. Hundreds of helping hands are needed to set up, serve food, and ensure that everything runs smoothly. If you’re interested in volunteering, you can sign up online to lend a hand and be part of this glorious occasion.

Get Ready to Celebrate!

So, mark your calendars, gather your friends and family, and head on down to Gratefull on November 21 for a delightful Thanksgiving celebration. It’s a beautiful way to not only enjoy a hearty meal but also to connect with others in the community, share in the spirit of gratitude, and give back. Let’s come together, share stories, and make memories at one long table in the heart of Chattanooga!
