Chattanooga Says Farewell to Beloved Family Man, Dennis Munczenski
Chattanooga is mourning the loss of a remarkable man, Dennis Munczenski, who passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the age of 73. Dennis was a true pillar of the community, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A Life Well Lived
Born in 1951 and a proud resident of Chattanooga, Dennis was known not only for his vibrant personality but also for his immense contributions to the community. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in 1969, he embarked on an academic journey at Georgia Tech followed by additional training at Emory University. Despite his education taking him far and wide, Dennis always made Chattanooga his home.
Family: His Greatest Joy
Dennis leaves behind a loving family, including his beloved wife, Teresa, with whom he celebrated countless memories during their nearly 32 years of marriage. Dennis would often express that Teresa was the best thing that ever happened to him, and their partnership was a beautiful example of love and respect.
The couple raised two wonderful children, Shannon Gimple (David) and Devin Munczenski (Kelli), who they supported in all their endeavors. As a proud father and an adoring grandfather, Dennis took immense joy in his grandchildren: Caroline, known lovingly as “Sweet Caroline,” Alex, and little Murphy. His grandchildren have inherited his kindness and wit, with a bright future ahead as they pursue their dreams, showing Dennis’ legacy will continue on across generations.
A Friend to All
Throughout his life, Dennis was more than just a family man; he was an incredible friend to many. A proud jokester, he had a laughter-filled spirit that never failed to put a smile on faces. Dennis never met a stranger, always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor in need. His quick wit and generous heart made him a beloved figure in the community. He was known for starting the Notre Dame Alumni Golf Tournament, a tradition that has thrived for nearly forty years, bringing together friends and alumni for a good cause.
A Successful Career
In his professional life, Dennis made substantial contributions through his work as the Chief Financial Officer at Econ Mills for 23 years, where his skills were vital to the company’s success. Later on, he ventured into entrepreneurship, helping to launch several local businesses. His experience and friendly demeanor made him approachable, enabling strong relationships that lasted a lifetime.
Even in retirement, Dennis remained active. He enjoyed managing Jos. A Bank and shared his extensive knowledge of pools with Tri State Pools, relishing the opportunity to catch up with friends while on the job.
A Legacy of Kindness
Dennis bravely faced health challenges over the past two years, receiving care from the compassionate Dr. Bertrand Anz of Chattanooga Oncology. His family expresses heartfelt gratitude for the support and love they received during this difficult time. They believe Dennis truly ran a “race well run” and they are committed to sharing his story as a testament to his incredible spirit.
Final Farewells
A visitation will take place at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North on October 3, from 5-8 p.m. The family plans a private service to honor Dennis’ life and legacy at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family encourages donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in his name, continuing the mission to help children battling illnesses.
The impact Dennis had on his family, friends, and the Chattanooga community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandad, mentor, and an extraordinary human being.
