Chattanooga is buzzing with enthusiasm as the developers of The Bend at the former Alstom site take big steps toward creating something truly special for the community. These plans are paving the way for five new city blocks set on a delightful 12.4 acres in the heart of our city. That’s quite a bit of space to work with, and the vision here is as exciting as it is ambitious!
What’s Coming in Phase 2
Phase 2 of The Bend is shaping up to include new extensions of 10th and 11th Streets, alongside the introduction of a new Canal Street. This street will create a unique passage running smoothly parallel to Riverfront Parkway, with a little twist—one section will stretch at an angle towards 11th Street. How cool is that?
Developers are also adding a canal feature to the project, which is really an interesting aspect that will enhance the area’s aesthetics and potentially serve as a lovely spot for relaxation and enjoyment. What a great way to embrace Chattanooga’s beautiful landscape!
Creating an Inviting Space
One of the driving principles behind this project is to design an elevated street layout that encourages people to walk around instead of just driving. In order to keep this wonderful new space in top shape, the developers have committed to forming a CBID or a similar legal entity. This means they will share in maintenance costs that go beyond the city’s standard maintenance, ensuring that The Bend remains a stunning place to visit and enjoy well into the future.
One particularly interesting element of the site’s design is the unique angle of the intersection. This has been part of the master plan since the beginning, prepared by the talented team at Dover Kohl partners. The planning commission will be reviewing this important project next Monday, so fingers crossed for good news!

In addition to these exciting developments, we also have encouraging news about crime in Hamilton County. District Attorney Coty Wamp shared with the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club that crime rates are down overall, which adds to the positive vibe in our city.
