Chattanooga’s Underage Prostitution Sting Leads to Arrests

In a concerning development in Chattanooga, two men from out of state found themselves behind bars following an undercover operation conducted by the Chattanooga Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). This operation was aimed at tackling underage prostitution and was held on a Tuesday in the Lookout Valley area.

How the Sting Operated

To get things rolling, police set up an internet ad on an adult escort website. The ad was designed to catch the attention of those searching for illegal services. An undercover officer stepped in, posing as a 16-year-old girl. This clever ruse led to the interactions that ultimately brought both suspects into custody.

The first suspect, Shermar Mayfield, a 27-year-old from Columbus, Mississippi, initiated a conversation expressing interest in what a “quick visit” with the supposed underage girl would cost. When the “girl” texted back that the fee was $100 along with a request for alcohol, Mayfield seemed eager to proceed. He even asked for a “body pic” before heading to the hotel to finalize the deal.

Charges Filed

Once Mayfield arrived at the hotel and agreed to pay the cash for sex, police swooped in and arrested him. He now faces serious charges including solicitation of a minor and trafficking for commercial sex acts. It’s shocking to think that such interactions can happen, but unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated case.

The second individual, Eric T. Sartin, a 54-year-old from Flintstone, Georgia, also came through the sting. He inquired about the rates and availability of the service, but his messages raised eyebrows. At one point, he asked about “bare services for more money” and even had the audacity to question the authenticity of the deal, saying, “If you’re 16, how do I know it’s not a scam to get me there babe?”

Despite his doubts, Sartin went through with it, arriving at the hotel and agreeing to pay the same $100 for the encounter. Just like Mayfield, Sartin was taken into custody under similar charges, revealing the troubling pattern of behavior being targeted in these undercover operations.

Community Safety at the Forefront

These arrests emphasize the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to curb illegal activities in Chattanooga. The police are taking a strong stand against underage prostitution, a serious issue that has harmful implications for young individuals. By conducting operations like this, authorities aim to deter potential offenders and protect vulnerable members of the community.

As more stories emerge about such activities, it’s essential to keep the conversation alive about community safety and awareness. Everyone has a role to play in ensuring that our neighborhoods remain safe and supportive for all citizens.

Final Thoughts

This incident not only sheds light on a disturbing trend but also highlights the proactive steps being taken by law enforcement in Chattanooga. The dual arrests are a wake-up call for many, serving as a reminder that underage exploitation is a critical issue that community members need to stay vigilant about. Remember, we all have the obligation to protect our youth and foster a safe environment.
