Chattanooga Residents, Get Ready for Some Road Closures!
Hey there, Chattanooga! As we move into mid-October, it’s time to put on your road warrior hats because several roads in our lovely city will be undergoing some repairs and inspections. From October 10 through November, you may want to rethink your daily commute or plan for some extra travel time. Buckle up; here’s what you need to know!
Wilcox Blvd Tunnel Closure
Starting on Thursday, October 10, the Wilcox Blvd Tunnel will be closed for some necessary inspection and cleaning. Mark your calendars! Here’s when you can expect limited access:
- October 10th (Thursday) – closed from 8:30 A.M. to 3 P.M.
- October 11th (Friday) – closed from 8:30 A.M. to 3 P.M.
- October 12th (Saturday) – open all day, hooray!
- October 13th (Sunday) – closed from 7 A.M. to 4 P.M.
Keep your eyes peeled for detour signs and add a few minutes to your travel time!
Campbell Street Closure
If you travel down Campbell Street, brace yourself! It’s going to be closed until October 11th for a critical sewer main replacement. For those of you heading south, detours will lead you onto New York Avenue, while northbound traffic can reroute at Wilder Street and Dodson Avenue. A little patience will go a long way here!
Igou Gap Road Lane Reduction
And that’s not all! Beginning on October 10th through October 18th, part of Igou Gap Road near the roundabout will be reduced to a single lane for a street cut project. Thankfully, automatic flaggers (those nifty little portable traffic signals) will be on hand to help keep traffic flowing both ways. So you can still get where you need to go, just take it slow!
8th Street Crane Lift
Heads up, if you usually travel on 8th Street between Broad and Market streets! This road will be closed on October 10th and 11th for a crane lift. But don’t worry! It should be back open before the Friday evening rush hour rolls around.
Lake Resort Drive Closure
Mark your calendars for October 12th, when Lake Resort Drive will close for materials delivery and crane lifts considering the bridge construction project. The road will be closed from 7 A.M. to 3 P.M., so keep an eye out for detours at Hamill Road.
Frazier Avenue Resurfacing
On to some good news! Beginning October 14th, Frazier Avenue will get a fresh new look! The city contractors will begin resurfacing and restriping the avenue between Market and Barton Streets. Don’t worry, though—a lane will be maintained for both directions during the day, but keep an ear out for the occasional full closures of adjoining streets.
W Road Closure
Lastly, if you use W Road to dart up and down Signal Mountain, be prepared for a closure starting at 8 A.M. on October 14th until November 4th. This necessary work is vital to stabilize the slopes following the rock slide that occurred back in May. Residents along the W Road will still have access to their homes, thankfully!
