Gavin, who has 47, XYY Syndrome, along with ADHD and autism, has been missing school to attend vital therapeutic sessions, which are unfortunately being marked as unexcused absences by Hamilton County Schools.

A Mother’s Advocacy

Lindsey’s journey has been anything but easy. Last month, she brought her concerns before the Hamilton County School Board, urging them to improve educational accommodations for children like Gavin. One of her main requests was to allow Gavin to access a therapist of his family’s choice during class hours at Apison Elementary. Additionally, Lindsey argues that the school failed to consider an abbreviated school day tailored to Gavin’s requirements, which is another critical aspect of ensuring he receives the education that he deserves.
