Chattanooga Bunnies Looking for Forever Homes
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — If you’re in the market for a furry friend who is as sweet as they are soft, you might just want to check out the McKamey Animal Center, where **_nine adorable bunnies_** are now up for adoption. It’s hard to believe that just a couple of months ago, these little guys were in a tough spot. They were rescued from an unsuitable home, where they had been living in less-than-ideal conditions that left many of them needing some extra TLC.
The Rescue Story
In a heroic effort that took place nearly two months ago, dedicated staff from the McKamey Animal Center teamed up with the Humane Society of the United States to rescue a total of **_120 rabbits_**. They were all found living in an unsanitary environment that was reported to be unfit for habitation. Lauren Mann from the McKamey Animal Center shared more details about the situation, saying, “The rabbits were discovered in various ages, **_burrowing throughout the home_**.”
The owner of these rabbits had been a pet enthusiast for over 30 years, but unfortunately, a health crisis led to an overwhelming number of rabbits that became unmanageable. Mann remarked, “Probably close to 50 different individuals are helping to care for these rabbits on a continuous basis,” highlighting the incredible teamwork involved in this rescue.
Health and Rehabilitation
Once the rabbits were rescued, they underwent extensive veterinary checks. Many needed treatments for various health conditions. “They unfortunately had really, really bad flea infestation, so we had multiple rounds of flea treatment for all these guys,” Mann added. The challenges didn’t end there: “There’s bite marks. We have a lot of pieces of ears missing, fur missing, but that is typical in overcrowded conditions.”
Despite these challenges, many of the bunnies were successfully transported to rescue partners across the Southeast to continue their recovery. However, the nine special bunnies at McKamey are still looking for families to call their own.
Finding Forever Homes
These nine bunnies are all set for adoption, and they have been **_spayed and neutered, and thoroughly examined by a vet_**. If you’re interested in bringing one of these adorable rabbits home, each bunny is available for adoption at a modest fee of just **_20 dollars_**. Could you spare that for a lifetime of bunny cuddles?
As potential adopters consider bringing one of these rabbits into their lives, Mann offers some friendly advice: “Definitely do research before you come and adopt one, because they aren’t just a typical pet, but they’re a great beginner pet for a family, and can provide a lot of love.”
