Another thrilling week of high school football wrapped up in Chattanooga, and oh boy, did our local teams put on a show! As the first round of the TSSAA playoffs kicked off on Friday, November 8, excitement filled the air, with schools running on adrenaline and the rich tradition of playoff football. Here’s a look at the final scores and some lighthearted commentary on the standout performances that took place.
Class 1A Highlights
In what can only be described as a remarkable display of talent, Chattanooga Prep took down Gordonsville with a solid score of 25-7. This victory not only propels them into the next round but also shows they’re a force to be reckoned with in these playoffs. Meanwhile, Clay County showed their dominance against Sale Creek, finishing strong at 28-7. And we can’t forget about South Pittsburg who absolutely steamrolled Red Boiling Springs with an eye-popping score of 60-0! Now that’s how you make a statement!
Whitwell also made headlines with a decisive 52-14 victory over Jo Byrns, showcasing their offensive prowess and certainly securing their spot in the hearts of local fans.
Class 2A Action
Moving on to Class 2A, the thrill continued as Bledsoe County kept it clean and mean, shutting out Eagleton 45-0. Talk about a dominating performance! Marion County also kept the pressure on with a commanding 63-0 win against Smith County. That’s right, folks; you read that correctly—a complete shutout!
The nail-biter of the evening in this class went to Polk County, who edged out Happy Valley with a narrow 14-13 win. A game like that will keep fans on the edge of their seats for sure!
Class 3A Showcase
In Class 3A, Central scored a thrilling victory over Watertown with the final score landing at 47-35. That’s a whole lot of points on the board! Not to be outdone, Giles County took care of business against Tyner with a decisive 42-7 finish.
The action continued as Meigs County made quick work of Grundy County with a 49-12 result, and Sequatchie County left no doubt in their game against McMinn Central, winning big at 49-6. Wow, these teams are really turning up the heat!
Class 4A Competitions
Class 4A also had its fair share of thrilling matchups, with Macon County dominating Soddy Daisy with a score of 34-0. Meanwhile, Upperman showcased total control, shutting out Signal Mountain 49-0—now that’s defense!
White County claimed victory over Red Bank with a solid 31-6 verdict, proving they’re in it to win it.
Class 5A Showdowns
In the Class 5A realm, East Hamilton drummed up a comfortable win against Karns with a score of 34-8. On the edge of excitement, the game between Lenoir City and Walker Valley went the distance, ending after three overtimes with Lenoir City emerging victorious at 28-21. McMinn County looked formidable against Clinton as they ran away with a 48-14 win, while Oak Ridge squeezed past Rhea County with a close 7-6 win, showcasing that every point counts in the playoffs.
Class 6A Battles
Finally, we reached Class 6A, where Science Hill outshined Cleveland with a tight 30-28 victory. Each of these games adds another chapter to the incredible stories unfolding this season in Chattanooga high school football.
