He left this world on December 2, 2024, at the age of 89. Don, as he was fondly known, dedicated his life to public service, providing valuable insights and guidance for the state’s budgetary needs. During his tenure, he earned respect from colleagues and lawmakers alike, known for his thoughtful approach and unwavering commitment to the community.
Don is survived by his loving family, who take comfort in the impact he made during his illustrious career. A Local Hero: Ronald “Tater” Tatum, Sr.
In the days preceding Don’s passing, the community also faced the loss of another notable figure, Ronald “Tater” Tatum, Sr.. Ronald passed away on November 30, 2024, at the age of 71. A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army, where he developed a deep sense of duty and camaraderie that would follow him throughout his life.
Ronald was an active member of the American Legion Post 95, where he often advocated for veterans’ rights and connected with fellow service members. His passion for his community was evident through his involvement in local projects and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of those around him. Just moments after Don’s passing, the community was again struck by the loss of Rebecca “Becky” Campbell, who went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2024. At 73, Becky was a beloved figure in Chattanooga, having been born and raised in the area. A proud graduate of Ooltewah High School, she was a staple in her community, known for her kind heart and welcoming spirit.
Becky was much more than just a familiar face; she was a pillar of strength and compassion, always ready to lift others up. Friends recall her unwavering support during tough times and her ability to bring joy and laughter wherever she went. Her love for her family and friends was evident, and she cherished the moments spent with those she cared about. The impact that Becky made on her community will surely be felt long after her passing.
