Nightly Roadblocks on I-75 in Hamilton County: Prepare for Delays and Construction Ahead

Heads Up, Hamilton County Drivers!

Attention all drivers hitting the road in Hamilton County! If you’re planning to travel on I-75 anytime between now and Thursday, December 12, 2024, you might want to brace yourself for some road work that could make your commute a little more challenging than usual.

Rolling Roadblocks Ahead!

That’s right! The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is rolling out nightly roadblocks as they replace some overhead Dynamic Message Signs on I-75. Specifically, they’ll be working on the southbound side at mile marker 13.7 and on the northbound side at mile marker 10.2. This means that if you’re cruising down I-75, you could be faced with some slow-moving traffic and temporary ramp closures.

What to Expect

The construction is set to kick off each night and wrap up by 6:00 am ET. So, if you’re a night owl hitting the roads, be prepared to encounter a bit of a snag in your journey. The work is dependent on the weather, which means if Mother Nature decides not to cooperate, the construction could be rescheduled for a later date. Stay tuned, folks!

Keeping You Safe

To keep things running smoothly, you’ll see uniformed police officers on-site to help with traffic control and ensure that everyone stays safe during this construction phase. It’s always a good idea to be alert and follow their directions.

Plan Ahead

Before you hit the road, remember to Know Before You Go! You can check travel conditions ahead of time using various motorist information tools available. And please, for everyone’s safety, remember to avoid any distractions while driving. That means no tweeting, texting, or chatting on your phone as you navigate the roads.

Stay Informed

If you want to keep tabs on the latest updates about construction and traffic conditions, don’t hesitate to access the TDOT SmartWay Map.

Know the Law!

While you’re on the topic of road safety, let’s not forget about the Move Over Law, which was passed back in 2006. Failing to yield to emergency vehicles could result in a punishment that includes up to 30 days in jail and fines of up to $500. It’s essential to be aware of these rules, not just for your own safety, but for everyone on the road.

Stay Safe Out There!

So there you have it, Hamilton County! Take note of these upcoming changes and be sure to plan your travels accordingly. Whether you’re heading to work, running errands, or just out for a drive, be safe and patient as the construction crew works to keep our roads in tip-top shape.

Happy travels!
