Arrest Made In O’Rear Street Shooting That Left Victim Apparently Brain Dead

Chattanooga

A man has been arrested for his involvement in a shooting that took place on O’Rear Street, leaving the victim with severe injuries that doctors describe as likely fatal. Jarek Pritchett, 20, of 9214 Volans Lane, Harrison, has been charged with attempted criminal homicide.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the scene of the shooting at 2508 O’Rear St. on Sunday night following reports of gunfire. The victim, identified as Shantrell Vinson, had already been transported to the hospital by a personal vehicle when they arrived. Hospital officials informed detectives that Vinson had been shot three times on the left side and has minimal chances of surviving his injuries.

Officials said that the nature of Vinson’s injuries appears to align with being shot from the driver’s side of a vehicle. The police managed to collect video evidence showing a silver Honda Accord with a black bumper and a black hood leaving the crime scene. Upon further investigation of Vinson’s phone, it was determined that he was set to meet Pritchett for a drug deal.

Pritchett was later located at his home, where police found the silver Honda described in the video. He admitted to meeting Vinson on O’Rear Street to sell marijuana. Pritchett claimed that after they had smoked some marijuana together, Vinson produced a gun. According to Pritchett, a struggle ensued, during which he managed to gain control of the weapon. He stated that he got out of the car from the passenger side and, standing about 10 feet away, fired one shot because he perceived Vinson to be advancing towards him. Pritchett said he then placed the gun on the ground, shut the passenger door, got back into the driver’s seat, and drove home.

However, police noted discrepancies between Pritchett’s account of the events and the actual evidence found at the scene. “The evidence at the scene and the victim’s injuries do not line up with the suspect’s statement,” the police said.

Jarek Pritchett now faces charges of attempted criminal homicide as investigations continue into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. The community remains on edge as they wait for more updates concerning both the victim’s condition and further details from the investigation.

This disturbing event adds to a series of violent crimes in the area, raising concerns among Chattanooga residents about public safety. Everyone is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
