In the heart of Chattanooga, Tennessee, the verdant environs of Ben Miller Park have come alive with new features that promise to attract visitors from all walks of life. The redevelopment of this beloved recreation space, located at 1099 West 40th Street in the St. Elmo neighborhood, was officially unveiled on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
The Hamilton County Parks and Recreations department inaugurated the park’s new facilities that feature enhanced outdoor basketball and tennis courts. Additionally, the park now boasts Nashville’s first dedicated pickleball courts, an inviting dog park, swing sets for children, and well-maintained walkways for leisurely strolls.
The inaugural event was attended by prominent Chattanooga leaders, including Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp and Chattanooga City Mayor Tim Kelly. Mayor Wamp praised the recent revamp of the park with immense satisfaction, emphasizing how it’s the latest addition in the continued investment in recreational facilities throughout the city.
“From McDonald Farm in Sale Creek to the world-class Walden’s Ridge Park on Signal Mountain, Ben Miller Park is the latest example of how we’ve been enhancing recreational experiences to better connect our communities,” noted Wamp. “My heartfelt gratitude goes out to Commissioner Joe Graham for prioritizing this project and our parks director, Matt Folz, for collaborating with Chattanooga City to make this a reality,” he added.
Chattanooga City Mayor Tim Kelly echoed similar sentiments, expressing his delight about the future use of the revamped space. “Urban parks are essential for an enriching life in our city. Parks, like Ben Miller, bring together all kinds of folks for play, relaxation, exercise, and events, ultimately fostering a stronger sense of community,” said Kelly.
Both leaders expressed their gratitude to county officials such as Joe Graham and Raquetta Dotley, as well as the entire county’s park and recreational services team, for spearheading the park’s revamp.
The luxurious refurbishment of Ben Miller Park will now serve as a place where residents can enjoy an assortment of outdoor activities. Its splendid setting, coupled with these renovations, seeks to promote the park as an exquisite recreational hub and a bustling social space in Chattanooga.
The upgrading of Ben Miller Park is part of a broader mission by the Chattanooga city and county government to enrich the quality of life earlier considered exclusive to urban living. This refurbishing of the park is just one more example of how communities can derive wellness and economic benefits generated from active participation in open-space recreational activities.
It’s anticipated that these new facilities will encourage more youth participations, strengthen communal bonds and foster the integration of the diverse communities that make up Chattanooga’s vibrant social fabric. Well-done, Ben Miller Park!
