Return of Bessie Smith’s Big 9 Music Fest Happening April 13-14

Two-day Musical Extravaganza

Celebration for Bessie Smith’s Big 9 Music Festival is in the air. The festival is returning with enthusiasm and flair across town. The Bessie Smith Cultural Center promises a two-day event filled with live performances displaying a variety of music genres. Clear your schedules for Saturday, April 13, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, April 14, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The festival will be happening on East MLK Boulevard, in front of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center and Chattanooga African American Museum.

Family-Friendly Event

This incredible musical ensemble is designed to ensure a fun time for all ages. Whether you are a fan of traditional tunes, modern beats, or a little bit of everything, the festival is sure to offer something to your liking. Bring your family and friends to create memorable experiences at this free event.

Saturday’s Line-Up

The festival will kick-off on Saturday with jaw-dropping performances by various groups and artists including Karen Collins featuring Dexter Bell and Friends, David Anthony, Luke Simmons and the Lovestruck and Rick Rushing and the Blues Strangers. As the evening sets in, the World Music Showcase with the Ogya World Music Band and Dancers will be taking the stage, promising a blend of Reggae, African Music and Dance, Soca, Calypso and more.

Gospel on the Lawn Sunday

Sunday’s scenario will transform completely. The grounds of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center will resound with spiritual vibes, fostered by the Gospel on the Lawn event. Local gospel groups and choirs will grace the stage delivering a powerful performance. The scheduled performers include the Greater Tucker Mass Choir, The Remnant Ministries, Brother James Ward, Children of God, and Marcellas Barnes and the Sounds of Unity.
