Hit the Road with Bike Tennessee: Explore Six Scenic Cycling Routes

Hit the Road with Bike Tennessee

The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development has recently launched a new cycling initiative titled “Bike Tennessee”, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to explore the state via six professional road cycling routes.

Created in partnership with the renowned local tour operator, Velo View Bike Tours, Bike Tennessee aims to promote health, wellness, and exploration of the picturesque landscapes and small towns across the state.

A Quick Overview of Routes

Each of the six trails offers riders unique terrain and scenic views. Whether you are a road cycling novice or an expert, there’s a route tailored for you. These include Signal Mountain Out + Back, Chatata Valley Loop, Monkey Town Loop, Lower Sequatchie Valley Loop, Middle Sequatchie Valley Loop, and the Upper Sequatchie Valley Loop.

Signal Mountain Out + Back

This 19-mile route grants cyclists panoramic views of Chattanooga and the surrounding landscape. Topped off with a variety of local attractions such as Walden’s Ridge Park and Civil Provisions and Bar, the journey also offers a relaxing stop at the Morris Vineyard.

Chatata Valley Loop

This 25-mile loop runs through Cleveland’s backroads, up hilly terrain, and alongside the majestic Cherokee National Forest. Cyclists should embrace the challenging landscapes found along this route that truly put their endurance to test.

Monkey Town Loop

For the more adventurous, the Monkey Town Loop is a 43-mile challenge with two significant climbs up the Brayton and Evensville Mountains. Cyclists can reward their efforts with a chilled beer at the Monkey Town Brewing Co. at the trail’s end.

Lower Sequatchie Valley Loop

Starting in Jasper, this 48-mile journey through the valley leads cyclists through the agricultural landscapes of Cartwright, offering views of sprawling farms and mountain vistas.

Middle Sequatchie Valley Loop

Starting at the Cookie Jar Cafe in Dunlap, this 29-mile route guides cyclists north through the county, offering views of Walden’s Ridge and the South Cumberland Plateau. Additionally, it meanders through plentiful farmlands and pockets of small towns.

Upper Sequatchie Valley Loop

Running 35 miles from Pikeville, this route takes you through the Sequatchie Valley’s farmlands and small towns, alongside views of the neighboring river. Daredevils can challenge themselves to a multi-day tour by taking on all three routes of the Sequatchie Valley Loop.

Besides these routes, the Bike Tennessee initiative also includes an array of statewide events to further engage the cycling community and promote cycling as a fun, healthy, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
