The show promises to take audiences on an emotional rollercoaster, exploring themes of love, conflict, and societal expectations.

Showtimes and Ticket Information

Performances will be held at the stunning Dorothy Hackett Ward Theatre from October 1st to 5th, starting at 7:30 p.m. each evening. If you prefer a matinee option, there’s a special performance on Saturday, October 5th, at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online and at the UTC Box Office, both via phone and in person. General admission is just $20, while students and seniors can enjoy a discounted ticket price of $15 upon providing valid identification.

A Brief Overview of Blood Wedding

Steve Ray, a professor at UTC and the play’s director, describes Blood Wedding as “more like a poem in that it is brief and eloquent.” With a runtime of approximately 80 minutes, viewers can expect a tight, impactful narrative. Ray shared, “This is a very important piece of international dramatic literature, and it’s different from other productions we’ve staged at this time of year.”

As a key figure in 20th-century literature, García Lorca’s works often delve into profound themes, intertwining elements of surrealism with deep emotional resonance. His talent shines through in Blood Wedding, a story steeped in tradition and heartache.

The Story Behind the Play

Blood Wedding centers around a young bride-to-be who makes a daring choice on her wedding day—she decides to run away with her former lover, a member of a rival family. This explosive decision opens the door to a whirlwind of events that ultimately lead to violence and tragedy. The plot vividly unveils the implications of societal norms and the inevitable clashes that arise from defiance.
