Chattanooga Says Goodbye to a Beloved Figure: Carolyn “Boney/Nana” Thacker Pool

Chattanooga, TN—On March 16, 2025, the community lost a shining light in the life of Carolyn “Boney/Nana” Thacker Pool. Born on January 10, 1940, in Houston, Texas, Carolyn lived a life filled with love, faith, and devoted service to others. From her beginnings as the daughter of Irene (McAvoy) and Ross McCoy Thacker, Carolyn led a vibrant life that many friends and family members will cherish forever.

A Life Spun in Twinship and Love

Carolyn shared a special bond with her identical twin sister, Marilyn, who laughs at the playful rivalry over who was born first. Carolyn jokingly claimed the title of “older sister” by a mere two minutes, a lighthearted way to embrace their cherished twinship. Together, they grew up in Houston, cultivating a tight-knit relationship that would last a lifetime.

In a beautiful partnership, Carolyn married Deavell (Dee) Hardin Pool, and together, they celebrated 67 years of love and companionship. Their life together was fortified by a foundation of faith, family, and a warm home filled with laughter and shared memories.

A Heart of Service and Faith

As a devoted member of the Red Bank Baptist Church, Carolyn became known in the community as a prayer warrior, always extending her hand to those in need. Her gentle spirit led her to volunteer with Hospice and to care for babies in Erlanger’s NICU, a testament to her loving nature that extended beyond her own family.

Known for her Southern charm and infectious laugh, Carolyn had a way of bringing people together. She never met a stranger, making friends easily and spreading warmth wherever she went.

Career and Passion

Professionally, Carolyn was a force to be reckoned with as an executive assistant. With her CPS accreditation tucked under her belt, she forged a successful career until her retirement at age 72. This amazing woman wasn’t done yet; following her retirement, she found joy in working at a local nonprofit. There, she spent valuable time with her grandson, Eliot, further enriching her experience of love and family.

Creating a Home

Carolyn was not just a homemaker but a master at transforming a simple house into a nurturing home. Her talents shone brightly in her sewing for her daughters and tackling household projects with remarkable dedication. The Pool family dinners were a cherished tradition, often highlighted by sit-down meals where everyone gathered around the table. Sundays were particularly special, featuring Carolyn’s famous pot roast, a dish that will surely be missed by all.

A Loving Family

Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband, Dee Pool, who has been her partner through thick and thin. Her loving legacy extends to their children: Tina Pool, Tracye Pool (Brian O’Leary), and Todd Pool (Candy Pool). She was also a proud grandmother to Michael Pool, Nicole Howard, Jordan Henderson (Maria Henderson), and her beloved grandson, Eliot Berz.
