Celebrating the Life of Doris Junell Cato Parham

Chattanooga, TN – Doris Junell Cato Parham, lovingly called June by her friends and family, was a remarkable woman whose impact on her community and family will be felt for generations to come. Born on October 18, 1949, in Chattanooga, she lived a life that was vibrant and full of love, characterized by her deep commitment to family, faith, and community service. June passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, just before her 75th birthday.

A Life of Education and Commitment

June was born to Dorsey and Evelyn Cato and was a proud graduate of Riverside High School, class of 1967. Following high school, she pursued her passion for history at Spelman College in Atlanta, where she graduated in 1972. Her dedication to education did not just stop at her own; she became involved in her church, Tucker Baptist Church, where she left a beautiful mark as a teacher for Vacation Bible School and played significant roles in numerous church activities.

A Joyful Marriage and Motherhood

During her time at Spelman, June met her soulmate, Willie James “Boonie” Parham, and they married on January 7, 1973. The couple was inseparable for 48 wonderful years until Boonie’s transition in 2021. Together, they shared a dream of having a family, and they were blessed with a daughter, Courtney Nicole Parham, who continually filled their lives with joy.

Professional Achievements and Community Service

After relocating back to her hometown of Chattanooga to care for her aging family, June built a successful career. Her professional life was split between Allstate Insurance, Inc. and the City of Chattanooga, where she held the esteemed position of Chief Code Enforcement Inspector. Beyond work, she contributed to her community by being a member of the Order of Eastern Stars.

A Life Filled with Hobbies and Interests

June had a zest for life that shone through her many interests. Her passion for baking, shopping, and especially the holiday season was well-known, with her charming collection of black Santas and holiday reindeer being a centerpiece of her celebrations. Additionally, she loved to connect with her family over meals featuring her favorite starches and enjoyed indulging in her passion for history by studying her family’s genealogy.

Remembering a Beautiful Soul

Survived by her caring daughter Courtney and her stepfamily, including Vincent Grier and his family, June leaves behind a wide circle of friends and relatives who cherished her dearly. Her wit, wisdom, and loving spirit exemplified her ability to put others first, and her absence will indeed be felt by many.

A Final Farewell

The family has extended their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at the Highway 58 Chattanooga Kidney Center and her therapists, who helped provide care during June’s last days. Friends and family can pay their respects during visitation on Monday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Greater Tucker Missionary Baptist Church. The celebration of her life will follow immediately at 12 p.m. and will conclude with interment at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
