Ooltewah Says Goodbye to a Beloved Community Member
Ooltewah, TN – The small community of Ooltewah is wrapping its arms around the family of William “Bill” Cecil Kesley, Jr., who peacefully left this world to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 11, 2024. Bill was 84 years old and spent his life making friends and spreading love throughout the area. His legacy will surely live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him.
A Life Full of Faith and Family
Bill made his entrance into the world on February 6, 1940, in McDonald, Tennessee, the son of the late William “Buster” Cecil Kesley, Sr., and Sydney Irene Walker Kesley. He grew up in a loving family environment that clearly shaped his unwavering faith, which became the cornerstone of his life. His commitment to his beliefs was not just something he practiced in private; it was something he wove into every aspect of his daily life.
For many years, Bill devoted himself to serving others, working as a meter technician at the Chattanooga Gas Company until his retirement. Colleagues described him as someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand, showcasing the spirit of service that he passionately lived by. After all, his faith fueled his dedication, making him not only a professional who fulfilled his duties well but also a man deeply committed to glorifying God.
A Loving Husband and Family Man
Bill was married to his wife, Shirley Kesley, for an incredible 64 years. During this time, they created a cozy family haven that echoed love, laughter, and shared faith. Bill was not just a devoted husband; he also wore many hats as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. From their children, Annette (Greg) Forgey and Rev. Jeff (Tina) Kesley, to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bill exemplified what being a loving family member truly means.
The family tree that Bill nurtured includes his grandchildren Amy (Jason) Watkins, Jeremy (Katie) Kesley, Jason (Jennifer) Joy, and Tiffany (James) Taylor, along with his cherished great-grandchildren—Briana and Bryson Gladden, Chloe, Summer, and Emma Kesley, as well as Nate and Luke Joy. Each relationship was filled with love, memories, and life lessons that will continue to resonate through the family for generations.
A Community Leader and Pastor’s Father
Beyond his role as a family man, Bill was a long-time member of Bancroft Church of God, where his son, Rev. Jeff Kesley, serves as pastor. His contributions to the church community were incredibly meaningful, as Bill was known for touching countless lives through his dedication to serve. His passing has left a notable void, but his teachings and love will resonate within the walls of Bancroft Church for years to come, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.
A Farewell Celebration
The community will come together to honor Bill’s life with a Celebration of Life scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, at 3 p.m. This heartfelt event will take place at the Chattanooga Funeral Home Valley View Chapel, with Rev. Terry Kesley and Rev. Jeff Kesley officiating the service. Friends and family are invited to share memories and condolences on Monday, October 14, from 4-8 p.m.
Bill will be laid to rest in the Lee Cemetery in McDonald, TN, a final resting place befitting a man who lived fully and faithfully. As community members gather to pay their respects, they’ll undoubtedly share stories that reflect on just how much he meant to each and every life he touched.
