Chattanooga Mourns the Loss of a Beloved Community Leader

Chattanooga is reflecting on the life of a true local luminary, Charles B. “Charlie” Rucker, Jr., who passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the comforting age of 88. He took his last breaths surrounded by family at his cherished home in Chattanooga, a city he proudly called home for over 65 years.

A Lifelong Dedication to Law and Community

Mr. Rucker’s educational accomplishments began with his graduation from the Cumberland School of Law, where he honed his legal skills. He went on to make a significant mark in the field of real estate law, devoting many years to this essential aspect of community life. His professional journey included stints at various title companies, where he earned respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike.

After a gratifying career, Charlie transitioned into public service, ending his professional years as a magistrate judge for Hamilton County. His insights and fair judgment impacted countless lives, making him a notable figure in the local legal landscape.

Faith and Family at the Heart of His Life

In addition to his professional pursuits, Mr. Rucker was a devoted member of Oakwood Baptist Church, where he took on various leadership roles. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in service to others and helping to strengthen the fabric of his community.

But, above all, it was his loving family that brought him the utmost joy. He was a dedicated husband to Patricia W. Rucker, his beloved wife of 60 years. Together, they shared a life filled with love and cherished memories. Mr. Rucker is survived by their son, Stephen Rucker, and daughter-in-law, Jaclyn, from Rock Spring, GA, who carry forward his legacy of love, resilience, and dedication.

Mr. Rucker was also the doting grandfather to three beautiful granddaughters: Annie, Kate, and Ellie Rucker. These young ladies were the delight of his life, and he cherished every moment spent in their company.

Remembering a Family Man

In addition to his immediate family, Charlie is survived by a special niece, Chrissi Devin, along with many other loving relatives who have been touched by his kindness and wisdom. Charlie was well-loved and respected in his community, and his presence will be sorely missed.

Celebrating His Life and Legacy

The Rucker family invites the community to join in a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, February 22, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Ken Clark will officiate the service, where family and friends can gather to celebrate a remarkable life filled with love, generosity, and cherished moments.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a heartfelt gesture to honor Charlie; they ask that you consider visiting a shut-in, a tribute that would surely please him tremendously. Such acts of kindness reflect the spirit of a man who valued community and caring for others.
