Restaurant Inspection Results: The Best and Worst Reports for the Chattanooga Area

Week of May 7, 2024

The health departments of Hamilton County, Catoosa County, and Walker County conduct periodic inspections of restaurants within their jurisdiction, grading their performance on a 100-point scale. Scores below 70 require corrective action. When restaurants fail to meet critical standards, they are subjected to re-inspections. The scores provided are original and do not account for on-the-spot changes that can sometimes lead to upward adjustments.

Inspection Outcome for the Area

For the week ending May 7, no failures were reported. Restaurant scores varied significantly, with some establishments managing a perfect score, while others barely avoided the need for corrective action.

Scottie’s On The River on 491 Riverfront Parkway scored the lowest with a 72, followed by Taco Town on 5425 Highway 153, Suite 137, which scored 81. Armando’s on 7330 Hixson Pike, Taqueria Bautista Mobile Unit on 1303 E. 23rd St., and Golden Bowl Teriyaki on 5517 Brainerd Road all managed scores of 84 and 88, respectively.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the scale, a number of establishments achieved perfect scores. A few to mention included Trading Post Smokehouse BBQ on 11016 Highway 157, Rising Fawn, Ga.; 1885 Grill Ooltewah on 9469 Bradmore Lane, Suite 101, and Mexi Wing IX on 6925 Shallowford Road, Suite 120, amongst numerous others.

Other Notable Scores

Some other notable scores above 90 were recorded by Miss Griffin’s Footlong Hotdogs LLC, Champy’s Chicken, and The Big Chill & Grill, all scoring 95. Other restaurants such as McAlister’s Deli and Sonic Drive In on 1016 Lafayette Road, Chickamauga, Ga. scored 96.

Coming close to perfection, the California Smothered Burritos (Mobile) on 5612 Alabama Ave., Old Man Rivers Table & Tavern on 118 Cross St. and Soul Food Xpress on 5843 Brainerd Road, all scored 98.

Complaint Procedure

If the public wishes to file a health-related complaint about a restaurant, they can reach the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department at 423-209-8110, the Catoosa County Health Department at 706-406-2030, and the Walker County Health Department at 706-639-2574.

Restaurant inspections serve not only to maintain and improve the general public’s health and safety but are also a good indicator for patrons when choosing where to dine out. Frequent high scores can reflect a restaurant’s commitment to maintaining high health standards and delivering quality service to its customers.
