Restaurant Health Check

The health departments of Hamilton County, Catoosa County, and Walker County carry out twice-yearly inspections of restaurants, grading them on a 100-point system. Those establishments scoring lower than 70 are required to implement corrective measures to boost their health standards. In situations where restaurants fail to meet vital standards, they are subjected to a re-examination. However, the scores do not account for on-the-spot adjustments, which may often result in improvements.

For the week ending April 2, 2024, no establishment in the Chattanooga area reported a failing grade. Lining up all local restaurants from lowest to highest scores reveals interesting figures.

Ricko’s Pizzeria and Italian Cuisine located at 10330 Dayton Pike were at the bottom of the list with a score of 85. Following closely behind were Canopy Coffee located on Scenic Highway and Goodfellas Pizzeria on King Street, Suite 105, both coming in at 87.

Maintaining Standards

To address any health-related concerns, the respective health departments encourage local residents to contribute to the health of their community by submitting any complaints to the following numbers: Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department at 423-209-8110, Catoosa County Health Department at 706-406-2030, and Walker County Health Department at 706-639-2574.

The ratings are part of a stringent process aimed at ensuring public health and hygiene in the local dining scene. These regular inspections, along with the prompt attention and correction of identified issues, reaffirm the commitment of local authorities and establishments to guarantee the safety and well-being of their patrons.
