Chattanooga To Host International Bluegrass Event From 2025-2027

Chattanooga has been chosen as the new home for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s (IBMA) World of Bluegrass (WOB) event for three consecutive years, from 2025 to 2027. The inaugural event is scheduled to take place from September 16-20, 2025.

An Unprecedented Opportunity for Chattanooga

This momentous announcement was made by the Chattanooga Tourism Company in partnership with several state bodies, including the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development (TDTD) and the IBMA. The news was further endorsed by Tennessee’s House and Senate Finance Chairs. Chattanooga will also be the first recipient of the newly established Tennessee Special Event Fund.

Economic Impact and Cultural Showcase

The Tennessee Special Event Fund, created by Governor Bill Lee and the General Assembly, aims to attract large-scale events. These events are expected to generate a minimum of $10 million in visitor spending and $1 million in state and local taxes. The Chattanooga Tourism Co. intends to use this fund to support and grow the WOB event.

The five-day WOB event in 2025 will feature a convention, trade show, awards show, artist showcases across downtown, and a two-day live music festival. An estimated 18,000 overnight visitors and over 45,000 total visitors, including day visitors, are expected. The event is projected to generate $30.1 million in economic impact and $1.1 million in state tax revenue, significantly benefiting various local industries.

Local Support and Enthusiasm

Barry White, president and CEO of the Chattanooga Tourism Co., expressed excitement about hosting the event, highlighting the city’s vibrant cultural scene and economic benefits. Ken White, executive director of IBMA, noted that Chattanooga’s passion and enthusiasm made it stand out as a perfect home for the WOB.

A Bright Future for Tennessee

Commissioner Mark Ezell of the TDTD emphasized the readiness of Tennessee to welcome major events like the WOB, which help showcase the state’s rich musical heritage. The special event fund aims to support local partners in securing high-value events, bringing significant economic benefits to Tennessee businesses.

Collaboration and Partnership

Thanks to the financial investment and support of the WOB sponsors, Chattanooga secured this prestigious event. Special thanks go to Governor Bill Lee, House and Senate Finance Chairs, and numerous local partners including hotels, restaurants, and cultural organizations.
