Chattanooga is buzzing with excitement over The Reading Room, a new book bar, in collaboration with the Chattanooga Public Library. Owner Linden Marno-Ferree aims to merge the joy of reading with a vibrant social atmosphere. Special pop-up events will feature live music and literary offerings, supporting both local musicians and the library. This initiative is expected to strengthen community ties and promote a love for books and culture in the area.
Chattanooga is buzzing with excitement as The Reading Room, a charming new bar and bookstore, gears up for a delightful partnership with the Chattanooga Public Library. This collaboration promises to bring the community together through literature and live music, all while supporting a great cause.
Linden Marno-Ferree is the creative mind behind The Reading Room. After gaining valuable experience at prestigious bookstores like Harvard Bookstore in Boston and Politics and Prose in Washington D.C., she felt the call to forge her own path. Unfortunately, low pay in the bookselling industry nudged her towards the restaurant sector. But with a vision to create a book bar that merges the social vibe of bars with the tranquil escape of bookstores, Marno-Ferree made the bold decision to open her own establishment.
In 2018, Marno-Ferree relocated to Chattanooga, drawn by its diversity and endless outdoor opportunities. She envisioned a space where local residents could unwind with a good book and a refreshing drink, and it seems her dream is fast becoming a reality.
The Reading Room has officially teamed up with the Chattanooga Public Library. This innovative partnership aims to repurpose surplus donated and discarded books for sale during special pop-up events. These book sales will not only fill the shelves of The Reading Room but also help generate some much-needed revenue for the library. It’s a win-win situation that both book lovers and the library community can rally behind.
Thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, The Reading Room is gearing up for a permanent spot that will be opening next year in the vibrant Old Town Brainerd area. The ambiance will feature cozy lounge seating, enticing a mix of bookstore charm and bar aesthetics. It’s a perfect recipe for a cozy evening out!
Don’t miss the upcoming pop-up event on December 13, 2024, at the historic St. Elmo Fire Hall. Starting at 7 PM, attendees can enjoy live music from local talents like Dalton Mills and The New Quintet. For just a $15 cover charge, you’ll be supporting these musicians while indulging in the exhilarating atmosphere of the evening.
The St. Elmo Fire Hall boasts a rich history that dates back to 1934 when it originally served as a fire station. It’s recently been revitalized through community efforts and is now a unique venue for events like this, allowing residents to connect with both their local culture and each other.
This month’s pop-up event is a special collaboration with Quiet City, a concert series that brings live music to unique venues within Chattanooga. To top it all off, the library will be offering limited free non-city resident library cards during events to enhance accessibility to their resources for all attendees.
The excitement doesn’t end there! Mark your calendars for the Fall Book Sale happening from December 6 to December 9 at Venue 701. A table will be set up for anyone interested in applying for a non-resident library card, making it even easier for everyone to dive into the treasure trove of books available at the library.
This initiative for limited free library cards has been made possible by an anonymous donor in collaboration with the Chattanooga Public Library Foundation, showcasing the community spirit at its finest. With all these fantastic events lined up, it’s clear that The Reading Room and the Chattanooga Public Library are fostering a love for both books and music that will resonate throughout the city for years to come.
