Chattanooga to Celebrate STEM Education at Annual Green Prix Race This Weekend

Chattanooga Gears Up for a Weekend of Electric Fun with the Annual Green Prix!

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – On your mark, get set, go! This weekend brings an exciting event to our city as Greenspaces prepares to kick off its much-anticipated annual Green Prix Race! What began as a simple initiative back in 2017 has blossomed into an incredible opportunity for students to dive headfirst into the world of STEM education.

Making STEM Fun

“We wanted to get our students more educated and more involved with STEM education,” shared Wayne Brown, the Director of Development at Greenspaces. “And so that is where the Green Prix evolved.”

This year, the excitement will mount as over 500 students from Hamilton County prepare to strut their stuff by building their very own electric vehicles. Brown emphasizes the significance of hands-on learning: “They can actually see what they are doing. It is one thing to talk about theory, but it is another thing to put your hands on that project and actually get inside the car, drive it, maintain it. And it’s a competition, too, because there are winners! So that is another part of the races we are really excited about.”

A Team Effort to Spark Creativity

This weekend’s event isn’t just a race; it’s a showcase of creativity, teamwork, and ingenuity. To make it all happen, Brown stresses the importance of collaboration. “We are so grateful for Volkswagen for allowing us to use this space. And we have other sponsors, like EPB and TVA, helping us bring this to life for our students.”

Final Races Ahead

The finale of the Grand Prix will take place on Saturday, featuring Middle and High School students competing with the vehicles they’ve built and fine-tuned. Brown believes the experience is about much more than just winning. “The messages you can do it. If you think about it, you can do it, and that is what we want to give them,” he said earnestly. “It’s about the opportunity for every student to achieve as much as they can. It all depends on how much they want to dream.”

Why the Green Prix Matters

For the participants, this event serves as both a learning experience and a chance to engage with their peers and teachers. They have worked tirelessly on their vehicles, and now it’s time to put their skills to the test! The excitement is palpable as students prepare for the thrill of the race. They’ll have the chance to celebrate not only their hard work but also the valuable lessons learned through this educational endeavor.

Join in the Fun!

If you’re in the Chattanooga area this weekend, be sure to come out and cheer on the young innovators as they race in the Green Prix. It’s a fantastic opportunity to support our students and witness firsthand the remarkable fusion of education and fun! Kids, parents, teachers, and community members are all encouraged to participate in the excitement surrounding this incredible event.

So gather your friends and family, and make your way to the Green Prix this weekend! Remember, every student has a dream, and the excitement of watching them chase after it is truly inspiring. Let’s show our support and make this an unforgettable weekend for all!
