Chattanooga, TN – It’s that jolly time of year again! On Thursday, the Hamilton County Criminal Court Clerk’s Office hosted its much-anticipated annual Christmas decoration competition, and you can feel the holiday spirit buzzing in the air. This delightful tradition is not just any rivalry; it’s a harmonious contest featuring three teams: the Session’s Criminal Division Clerk’s office, the State Criminal Court Clerk’s Office, and the Payment Center, all competing for the glory of having the most spectacular decorations!
The excitement was palpable as clerks put their creativity to the test, with each office presenting a unique theme this year. The Session’s Criminal Division dazzled with a whimsical Candy Land setup, while the Criminal Court Clerk’s Office went for a charming Elfin Around vibe. Meanwhile, the Payment Center took a daring twist with a prehistoric flair titled A Jurassic Christmas. Now that’s some serious holiday ingenuity!
To add an extra layer of competitiveness, clerks also showed off their fashion sense in the ugly sweater competition. This year, Alyssa Maroon from the Session’s Division claimed the coveted title of “best ugly sweater,” while Gracie Ruder from the Criminal Court Clerk’s office came in a close second. Not only does the competition bring out the best in decorating skills, but it also spices things up with some fun fashion!
After a fierce battle of tinsel and creativity, the Payment Center triumphantly reclaimed the title this year, snatching the trophy from the Session’s Criminal Division. Talk about a comeback season! The winners bask in glory and, as tradition holds, have the right to talk some playful smack until next year’s competition. Who wouldn’t want to flaunt bragging rights for a whole year?
Before diving into the festive festivities, the judges, including Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp, Chattanooga City Mayor Tim Kelley, and Collegedale City Mayor Morty Lloyd, were truly taken aback by a surprise from the hardworking staff. Just moments before the judging, the employees presented a heartfelt Family Photo Wall to Criminal Court Clerk, Vince Dean. The wall was adorned with pictures of their loved ones and furry companions, demonstrating a sense of community and affection.
According to Jason Clark, Chief of Staff, “This was our way of showing Vince how much we love him.” With a teary admission, Vince expressed he would likely spend a lot of time gazing at the wall once those tears dried up. Isn’t that just the sweetest touch to an already merry occasion?
After the judges made their rounds and the results were unveiled, the spirits were high! To wrap up this celebratory day, everyone was treated to a delicious spread catered by none other than Olive Garden. Can you say “grimacing at pasta” with a smile? Nothing like good food to strengthen camaraderie and teamwork.
As soon as the decorations are taken down, the office directors have vowed to start planning for next year. Alicia Merriweather, the Session’s Division Administrator, noted, “We’re determined to take back the trophy!” It’s clear this friendly rivalry is far from over!
As we embrace the holiday cheer, let’s not forget to celebrate safely. The Chattanooga Police Department is teaming up with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office for the Booze It and Lose It campaign, aiming to keep our roads safe from December 13 to January 1. So remember, friends, it’s all about having fun but doing it responsibly!
This year marks the tenth anniversary of this delightful competition, and it continues to grow in spirit and enthusiasm. Here’s to more joyous years ahead, filled with creativity, friendship, and a sprinkle of competitive cheer!
