Chattanooga, Tenn. — Chattanooga’s city council has pulled a resolution that would have donated the Airport Inn site located on Lee Highway. The city introduced plans to revitalize the site two years ago, aiming to transform the property into affordable housing.
The city had started accepting proposals from potential contractors in early 2023. **Tuesday’s resolution** would have offered the site to **Woodbine Community Organization**, a development group that helps families access affordable housing. However, this plan hit a snag as the **city council decided to retract the resolution**.
When the city first introduced a revitalization plan for the Airport Inn site, some families protested. They believed the plan would attract what they described as “**dangerous people**” to places with children, like **Silverdale Academy**. This concern has been one of the key factors in the council’s decision to pull back the resolution.
It’s currently unclear what the next steps will be for the **Airport Inn site**. The city will need to address the community’s concerns and possibly explore other avenues for the development of affordable housing without compromising the safety and well-being of existing neighborhoods.
