Hey there, Chattanooga! It’s been a bustling week in our beautiful city, and we can’t wait to share all the fun happenings on the horizon. From enjoyable festivals to charitable causes, there’s something for everyone to dive into this week.
First up, let’s talk about a wonderful initiative making waves in the area. The White Oak Bicycle Co-Op, a local nonprofit, is currently on the lookout for your used bicycles. This year alone, the dedicated volunteers have refurbished and distributed over 500 bicycles to community partners, ensuring that residents have affordable transportation options while promoting a healthier lifestyle. Their goal for 2024 is to distribute 700 bikes, especially as the holidays approach. “To continue to meet demand, we need more bikes,” says Ben Richards, the director of bicycle operations. If you have a bike gathering dust, consider donating it at one of their 12 collection sites listed on their website. Since opening in 2020, they’ve already helped more than 1,600 community members by getting them on two wheels!
The pulse of Chattanooga certainly beats loud for the arts this week with multiple exhibitions showcasing local creativity. Swing by Area 61 Gallery located on Broad St. for an exhibition titled “The Many Faces & Phases of Rick Sanders,” running through November 30. Not far away, at the AVA Gallery, art lovers can check out a beautiful collection featuring local artist Maria Willison until November 8.
Meanwhile, have you made a point to visit the Chattanooga Public Library? They’re currently hosting “The Impressions,” an exhibit that honors the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group featuring Chattanooga natives Fred Cash and Sam Gooden. This exhibit is on display until June 28, so there’s plenty of time to stop by!
If you’re looking for a good time this weekend, the Chattanooga Oktoberfest is just around the corner! Happening at the First Horizon Pavilion on October 12-13, it promises an array of German food, seasonal beers, and lively oompah bands, ensuring non-stop fun from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Be sure to grab a stein and join in the fun!
For family-friendly entertainment, make your way to Copper Creek Farm and explore their corn maze, pumpkin patch, and even enjoy a hayride. There’s something magical about this time of year, and you won’t want to miss out on their new caramel apple barn!
As October marches on, spooky activities are kicking up dust. The Haunted Barn kicks off its season this weekend and is celebrating 30 years of thrills! Venture through 16 terrifying rooms and embrace the eerie atmosphere while grooving to live DJs. For those seeking less fright but still fun, head to the Spooky Paws Pet Parade at the Tennessee Riverpark on October 12, where pets can strut their stuff with prizes for the best-dressed.
Don’t miss out on the vibrant array of events designed to bring the community together. Whether you’re cycling to encourage wellness, indulging your artistic side, or embracing the season’s festivities, Chattanooga has just the right mix to lift your spirits. So grab your friends and family, and make some memories this week! Let’s all support our local initiatives, enjoy the art, and have a blast at the festivals.
This is your reminder that there’s no shortage of opportunity to celebrate this wonderful community. Enjoy everything that Chattanooga has to offer this week!
