As the sun set on March 7, 2025, the vibrant city of Chattanooga echoed with heartfelt loss as residents mourned the passing of a beloved figure, William Norman “Rick” Bonner. He left this world at the age of 72, surrounded by those who loved him at a local hospital.
Born on September 12, 1952, in the cozy town of McDonald, Tennessee, Rick dedicated his life to his family and faith, embodying the very spirit of community service. For those who knew him, Rick was not just a husband, father, or grandfather; he was a beacon of light and kindness. He cherished his wife, Glenda Bonner, devoting himself to building a life full of love and laughter with her.
Rick took great pride in being a loving father to his daughter, Sara Lewis, and a doting grandfather to his two grandchildren, Wyatt and Lainey Kate Lewis. His connection with his son-in-law, Ben Lewis, was filled with warmth and camaraderie, creating a family bond that will last a lifetime. Rick’s family has expressed how deeply he will be missed as he is survived not only by them but also by a network of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Rick’s unwavering faith was evident through his tireless involvement at Mercy Baptist Church in Ooltewah. His life decisions were predominantly guided by a desire to serve both God and those in need. He played an instrumental role in establishing the East Ridge Food Pantry, showcasing his commitment to helping the homeless and the less fortunate. Rick took it upon himself to advocate for others, always standing firm for what he believed was right.
Those who knew Rick would often recall his infectious humor. On many occasions, he would light up a room with his quick wit, making even the toughest days feel a little easier. He loved spending quality time with his grandchildren, weaving stories and memories that they would hold dear as they grew. His ability to infuse laughter into ordinary moments made him unforgettable.
In the wake of his passing, a visitation has been set for Monday, March 10, from 3-8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home on East Brainerd Road in Chattanooga, where friends and family will gather to pay their respects. The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, and following this, he will be laid to rest at Lee Cemetery in McDonald.
Rick Bonner leaves behind a remarkable legacy of kindness, love, and service that will continue to inspire everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His spirit will live on in the projects he dedicated himself to, the family he adored, and the friends whose lives he touched with his generous heart.
