Chattanooga has lost a gentle soul, Charles Wesley Seymore, Jr., who passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the age of 72. A lifelong resident of this vibrant city, Charles was a familiar face, loved by many for his warm spirit and kind heart. Born to the late Charles Wesley Seymore, Sr. and Jimmie Elizabeth Bartlett Seymore, he left a mark not just on his family but also throughout the community.
Charles graduated from Ooltewah High School in the class of 1970. His professional journey took him to the Gunbarrel office of Verizon Wireless, where he dedicated several years of service. His colleagues remember him not just as a hardworking employee, but as a friend who always brought a smile and positive energy to the workplace.
A true music lover, Charles found joy in melodies. Family and friends recall how he often sang and strummed his guitar, filling rooms with the warmth of his passion for music. It’s said that music was his language, a way of connecting with those around him. He was an active member of Silverdale Baptist Church, where his love for music often found its way into church services.
Charles was not just a father to his two children, but a proud grandfather as well. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Kristy (Steve) Spence, and son, David Seymore, along with his fiancée, Marketta LaFoe. His grandchildren, Ethan Seymore, Kayelyn Seymore, Justin Burrell, and Josh Burrell, will undoubtedly miss their grandfather’s love and support. He was known for his playful spirit and dedication to family activities, creating lasting memories that his loved ones will cherish forever.
Sadly, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Wayne Seymore, a loss that deeply affected the family. Yet, through shared stories and memories, Charles’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his extended family and cousins, who will always remember him fondly.
The community can say their final goodbyes and celebrate Charles’s life on Monday, September 30. Friends and family are invited to gather from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Following this, he will be laid to rest at Plowman Cemetery in Apison, TN.
Those wishing to honor Charles’s memory are encouraged to visit www.chattanoogavalleyviewchapel.com where they can share their own memories and reflections on his life. Arrangements are being handled by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, located at 7414 Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
Chattanooga also remembers other treasured members who recently passed away. Mary Jane Hardison, 86, of Signal Mountain, left behind many stories of kindness and dedication to family. Meanwhile, the community holds dear the memory of William Kermit Vaughan, whose fight with Alzheimer’s reminded everyone of the strength found in family and love.
As we reflect on the lives of these cherished individuals, we are reminded of the profound impact they have made in our community. It is in moments like these that we realize the importance of connection, love, and remembering the legacies left behind. May they rest in peace, and may their families find solace in the love that surrounds them during this difficult time.
