Chattanooga Community Mourns Loss of Beloved Residents
Chattanooga, Tennessee, was a city filled with memories and love as friends and family gathered to remember some of its cherished residents who recently passed away. Though it is always a heartbreaking process to bid farewell, the lives of these individuals are celebrated with warm reflections of their character and the impact they had on those around them.
Remembering Stephen “Steve” R. Thompson
On Saturday, October 26, 2024, the community lost Stephen “Steve” R. Thompson, a 69-year-old resident known for his warm spirit and strong dedication to family. Steve was born in the picturesque West Brow community on Lookout Mountain and spent his life in the North Georgia and Chattanooga area. Through the years, he became a familiar face at Brainerd Baptist Church, attending services whenever his health would allow.
Steve’s life was filled with adventures, one of which was a memorable trip to the Masters Tournament with his wife, Sheila, just five years ago. Golf was a big passion of his, and the thrill of the game always brought him joy. Professionally, he was an EMT for many years and later transitioned to a career in electrical contracting, dedicating over 25 years to this field. Before retiring, he served as a project manager at Adman Electric, where he was widely respected for his expertise and leadership.
Above all, Steve’s greatest joy came from being with his beloved family. He is survived by his wife Sheila, their children Brian (Holly) Vandagriff and Laura (Kevin) Baggett, and grandchildren Emma Vandagriff, Cylia, and Lucas Baggett. His siblings, Mike (Claudette) Thompson and Karen (John) Cline, and his brother-in-law Chris (Gail) Jenkins also carry forward his legacy. Steve’s family expressed their gratitude for the support and prayers they received during this challenging time.
A memorial service in his honor is scheduled for Friday, November 1, between 4-6 p.m. at Brainerd Crossroads (BX), located at 4011 Austin Street, Chattanooga. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Steve’s memory to Brainerd Baptist Church.
Honoring George “Tom” Gamblin, Jr.
Just a day later, on October 27, 2024, another loss was felt with the passing of George “Tom” Gamblin, Jr., who reached the impressive age of 97. Born on August 22, 1927, Tom exemplified longevity and wisdom. His family has not yet provided specific details, but they reflect on a life well-lived and a legacy that will carry on in the hearts of many.
Jerry S. “Gov” Walls Remembered
Also on October 26, another life, that of Jerry S. “Gov” Walls, was celebrated. At 78 years old, Jerry, originally from Albertville, Alabama, made a significant impact in Lookout Valley. His contribution to the community and the warmth he shared will long be remembered by friends and family alike.
Farewell to Orison C. “Ace” Henderson
Finally, the community said goodbye to Orison C. “Ace” Henderson, who passed at the age of 89 on the same day as Jerry. Ace was known for his devout faith and love for his family, leaving a trail of memories that those who knew him will cherish forever.
As Chattanooga reflects on the lives of these remarkable individuals, it is undeniable that their legacies will endure in the community they touched and the love they fostered. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all who have supported the families during this delicate time.
