Chattanooga Community Bids Farewell to Beloved Locals
Chattanooga was filled with heartache this month as the community mourned the loss of some cherished residents. We take a moment to celebrate their lives and contributions to our vibrant city, capturing the essence of their legacies.
A Welder’s Heart: James “Jamie” Allen Brown
Born on March 29, 1975, Jamie Brown, a talented welder, passed away peacefully at the age of 49 on December 16, 2024. Jamie was much more than just a skilled laborer; he was a family man at heart. Although his job took him all over the country, he always held a special place in his heart for his home life and the joy of being Papa to his grandkids.
Jamie’s love for adventure didn’t stop at family. He often took to the open road on his motorcycle, feeling truly alive as he cruised through the scenic landscapes, relishing the freedom that only a motorcycle ride can provide.
His absence will be deeply felt not just by his family but by the community who came to know him. Jamie is survived by his father, James Alfred Brown; his beloved daughter Jayde Copeland, and her husband William Copeland; and his adored grandchildren, Billy, Willow, Thomas, and the soon-to-arrive Ripley Copeland. The family plans to honor his memory with a memorial service on Saturday, December 21, at 11 a.m. at the Stuarts Heights Baptist Church Chattanooga Campus on Hixson Pike. The service will be officiated by Darrell Davenport.
A Legacy of Kindness: Betty Moser Payne
The community also mourned the loss of Betty Moser Payne, who passed away at the age of 101 on December 11, 2024. Betty was a beloved figure in Chattanooga, known for her warmth and kindness. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Payne, and her parents, Hugh and Carrie Moser.
Betty’s long life was filled with cherished memories and meaningful connections. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, as her stories and laughter will continue to resonate within the community.
Remembering Robert Earl Hughes
Another profound loss for Chattanooga was Robert Earl Hughes, who passed quietly on December 12 at the age of 91. Born on July 22, 1933, Robert was the son of Roland and Patsy Jones Hughes from Madison, Alabama. His life journey touched many and his wisdom and stories will be profoundly missed.
Chad Eric Hackney’s Brave Battle
Chattanooga also bids farewell to Chad Eric Hackney, who went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2024. Chad faced numerous health challenges throughout his life, demonstrating remarkable resilience and strength. His courageous spirit inspired those around him, and though he is gone, his fight against adversity will continue to inspire others.
Community Support and Remembrance
As we reflect on these incredible lives that have forged connections and brought joy to Chattanooga, we invite the community to hold these families in their thoughts and prayers during this challenging time. Each of these individuals has left an indelible mark on our hearts, and their memories will certainly be cherished forever.
Let us celebrate the lives lived and the love shared, while offering our support to those who remain. In times like these, it’s important to lean on one another and find comfort in community solidarity.
