Sponsor Our ArticlesChattanooga’s community grapples with a wave of crime following recent arrests. Domestic violence, drug-related offenses, human trafficking, and child sex abuse charges highlight pressing issues. Local agencies and advocates emphasize the need for awareness and collective safety initiatives.
Chattanooga, a city known for its vibrant culture and friendly neighborhoods, is facing a somber wave of crime that has recently made headlines. With a number of recent arrests taking place, it’s essential for residents to stay informed and vigilant.
The Chattanooga Police Department arrested Cornelius Ladarius Barney, a 35-year-old resident of 1691 Dodson Ave, on charges of Domestic Assault. While details surrounding the incident remain scant, domestic violence is a serious matter that affects many families across our community. Local advocates and shelters are working tirelessly to support those affected by such incidents and raise awareness about the resources available for victims.
Meanwhile, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office has taken action against drug-related crimes with the arrest of Adrian Lebron Buford, a 36-year-old resident from 2313 Union Ave. Charged with Possession of Meth with Intent to Sell or Deliver, the arrest highlights ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the region. Community organizations continue to step up and offer support for individuals struggling with substance use disorders.
A joint undercover operation focused on combating human trafficking in Collegedale has led to some important arrests. Among those apprehended were Alvaz Kaukab, born on December 21, 1992, from Chattanooga, and Justin Long, born on July 6, 1998, from Chatsworth, Georgia. Kaukab is facing charges that include Solicitation of a Minor and Possession of Schedule 1 with Intent, while Long faces two counts of Solicitation of a Minor and one count of Patronizing Prostitution. Bond amounts were set at $5,000 for Kaukab and $7,000 for Long.
This operation, which included collaboration with the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking, aims to shine a light on this grim issue and provide support services for those who need it. The numbers around human trafficking are alarming, and local organizations are working hard to raise awareness in hopes of curbing these heinous crimes and helping victims find safety and restoration.
Adding to the distressing news, Adam Douglas Morgan, a 32-year-old individual, has been indicted on an astonishing 21 counts of child sex abuse stemming from incidents that occurred between January 13, 2022, and August 15, 2023. Following a Hamilton County Grand Jury indictment, Morgan was stopped on March 9 and has been ordered to have no contact with minors. His bond is set at a hefty $525,000, indicating the severe nature of the allegations. The community holds these issues close to heart, recognizing the vital importance of safeguarding our children.
These recent arrests showcase the hard work of various agencies, including the local office of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and a specialized team within the human trafficking unit. Working together, law enforcement aims to create a safer environment for all residents, but community involvement is crucial to achieve lasting change.
As residents of Chattanooga, it’s essential to remember that while these arrests serve as a reminder of the challenges faced, there are organizations and individuals in our city working diligently to foster safety and healing. All charges mentioned are accusations, and every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Stay tuned for updates, and remember, your involvement in the community can make a difference. Whether it’s reporting suspicious activities or supporting local organizations, we can work together to make Chattanooga a safe place for everyone.
