Chattanooga was buzzing with energy this past weekend as students from GPS, Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy, and Girls Inc. came together to celebrate the Chattanooga Day of the Girl. Focused on empowerment, fun, and connection among young women, this event turned a sunny fall day into a fantastic festival that attendees are sure to remember!
As early afternoon rolled in, students from CGLA arrived, greeted by the lively sounds of DJ NIP pumping out music that got everyone on their feet. The warm, sunny weather was perfect for a gathering outside, and students from GPS quickly joined the action on the fields. The joyful atmosphere was infectious, with laughter and the cheerful banter of games echoing all around.
Activities for the day were plentiful! Gaga Ball, volleyball, and mini golf were just a few of the games provided by the hard-working teams from GPS and CGLA. Meanwhile, Girls Inc. brought in creative fun, with activities that included blowing bubbles and drawing with sidewalk chalk. Supervised by passionate teachers from each organization, students cheered one another on as they dove into the variety of games.
After the lively games and activities, students gathered around for a special program dedicated to celebrating the achievements and potential of young women. The heartfelt event started with a warm welcome from Yolanda Williams, CGLA CEO in Residence, who set the positive tone for the day ahead.
Next up was Fance Brannock, the Director of Program Operations at Girls Inc., who shared inspiring words that resonated with all the young women present. Echoing the sentiment, GPS Student Council President Gwyneth Parks took the stage to discuss the immense importance of all-girls education. Her speech emphasized how these environments cultivate strength and solidarity among young women, a theme that was vibrantly represented throughout the event.
To add even more spark to the proceedings, a young CGLA alum gave an encouraging motivational charge to her peers, urging them to chase their dreams without fear. Her words lit a fire in the audience, instilling confidence and ambition in all the attendees.
The program wrapped up with heartfelt closing remarks from Lauren Lawrence Swanson, Director of Student Life and Assistant Dean of Students, who expressed sincere gratitude to all participants and organizers for crafting such a memorable and impactful day. It was evident that this celebration meant so much to everyone involved.
Events like the Chattanooga Day of the Girl remind us how important it is to empower and uplift the next generation of young women. Participants formed connections that will surely last beyond the day, fostering friendships that might cultivate future collaborations and support.
As the sun set on a spectacular day, the students left the fields with smiles on their faces and an extra bounce in their step, invigorated by the celebrations of their strengths, ambitions, and unity. It was a day truly dedicated to showing that when young women come together, incredible things can happen!
