In a somber moment for the Chattanooga community, we come together to remember the life of Nancy Pauline Daugherty, a cherished educator and devoted church member who passed away on December 25, 2024, at the age of 95. Her passing leaves a profound impact on many, and this community has lost a true gem.
Nancy was born in Port Arthur, Texas, where she began her incredible journey as the daughter of the late Carl and Nancy Alexander. Throughout her lifetime, she was known for her strength and determination—qualities that endeared her to everyone who knew her. Nancy’s life was marked by a love for education and service, both in her professional career as a nurse and her dedicated work within the church.
The community of Chattanooga, including the Ridgedale Baptist Church, mourns the loss of this remarkable woman who served as a shining example of faith and perseverance. Her participation in the Friendship Sunday School Class highlighted her commitment to her church family and her passion for community involvement.
Throughout her 58 years of marriage to her beloved husband, Ervin Daugherty, Nancy created a loving home for her family. Though she faced great sadness with the passing of her husband and son Brian, Nancy remained a beacon of strength for her daughters, Cheri and Michelle. Cheri, married to Tracy Stakely, and Michelle, married to Kevin Mathews, carry forward the legacy of love and resilience that their mother instilled in them.
Nancy was also a proud grandmother, and she took great joy in her grandchildren: Victoria and Valetta Mathews as well as Devin Daugherty and Bryson and Bella Stakely. Her family tree has deep roots, with many nieces and nephews who were no doubt touched by her warmth and wisdom.
Besides her family, many in the community will remember Nancy as a lively and spirited influence. Described as spunky and strong, she was an active participant at the Sports Barn, where she enjoyed exercising and keeping fit. Nancy led a life flavored with laughter and hard work, all while serving others, extending her love and compassion through acts of service and heartfelt prayers.
Friends and family who wish to celebrate Nancy’s life can join together at the Chattanooga Funeral Home on January 3, from 3-6 p.m. There will be a special celebration of life service held at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel, officiated by Dr. Doug Plumlee. As a testament to her impact, the Friendship Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
For those wishing to pay tribute, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Nancy to Ridgedale Baptist Church, located at 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421. Contributions can also be made online at the church’s website.
Nancy Pauline Daugherty’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the entire Chattanooga community. Through love, faith, and dedication, she touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark that will never be forgotten.
