Chattanooga Receives Grant for Energy Efficient Transformation
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The city of Chattanooga is set to undergo a significant transformation thanks to a new federal grant. The Department of Energy has announced a funding award of $2.9 million to support the creation of an energy-efficient resilience hub at the James A. Henry building. This initiative is part of a larger effort under the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda.

Chattanooga was chosen as one of just 12 local governments and tribes to receive a share of over $31 million provided through the Communities Sparking Investments in Transformative Energy (C-SITE) program. The goal of this program is to foster high-impact clean energy projects, particularly in disadvantaged communities, and areas with smaller populations.
The James A. Henry building, which has been closed, will be renovated and expanded to serve multiple purposes. City leaders plan to transform the site into a community resilience hub that will not only focus on energy efficiency but will also provide essential services for the local residents.
