Chattanooga, TN – Big changes are on the horizon as the Tennessee Valley Authority (T-V-A) takes significant steps to shape the future of energy in our region. T-V-A has kicked off an open comment process for its draft plan, known as the 20-25 Integrated Resources Plan, and they want to hear from you!
The Integrated Resources Plan, or IRP for short, lays out T-V-A’s vision on how it plans to manage and invest in our power resources over the coming decades. With the growing demand for energy, it’s crucial to have a roadmap that not only addresses current needs but is also responsive to the challenges that lie ahead, especially when it comes to extreme weather events.
“We certainly understand there are some climate-related moves happening,” said Clifton Lowry, the Director of Resource Planning and Strategy at T-V-A. He emphasized that recent challenges posed by Hurricane Helene have been taken into account as they develop this plan. The desire to create a power grid that’s resilient and prepared for unpredictable climate events is more critical than ever. “Those types of weather-related, climate-related events are things we are considering within this IRP,” Lowry added.
If you’re interested in how T-V-A is planning for our energy future, you’re in luck! T-V-A will be hosting public meetings in Rossville and Chattanooga this November. This is a fantastic opportunity for community members to get involved, express thoughts, and ask questions about the plan. T-V-A encourages everyone to participate, as public input can shape how this plan unfolds.
These meetings will facilitate a discussion on how T-V-A intends to manage energy generation, transmission, and how it can prepare for emergency situations. Community voices are essential in this process, and your opinions can influence how our energy resources will be developed to meet everyone’s needs.
We all know that energy is a fundamental part of our daily lives and our community’s growth. By participating in this initiative, you can play a pivotal role in ensuring that our energy future is bright, reliable, and sustainable. So, mark your calendars for the upcoming meetings and get ready to have your voice heard.
