Chattanooga, Tennessee, is mourning the loss of a cherished community member, Patricia “Patty” Harwood, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the age of 89. Patty was known for her warm smile, deep devotion to her family, and her substantial contributions to the local community.
Born on March 21, 1935, Patty was the daughter of the late Thomas Loyd Seitz and Ara Zoe Dell Seitz. Growing up in Chattanooga, she attended Charleston High School and later dedicated her life to being a devoted homemaker, caring for her family with love and compassion. Those who knew Patty described her as someone who radiated warmth and kindness, making everyone feel welcome in her presence.
Patty’s legacy will be cherished by her family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Perry Harwood, and her children, including her son, Timothy Harwood. She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Jim (Wanda) Seitz, along with her grandchildren: Allen Harwood, April (Josh) Davis, Sabrina (Nicholas) McCourt, and several great-grandchildren. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and countless extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Known for her faith, Patty was a member of the Eastern Star and practiced her Christian beliefs with sincerity. Her love didn’t stop at her family; she had a passion for genealogy, often researching her family history and sharing stories that connected generations. Patty also enjoyed reading, spending countless hours immersing herself in the pages of her favorite books, perhaps getting lost in stories that took her on adventures far beyond Chattanooga.
The Harwood family invites the community to pay their respects and celebrate Patty’s life at her funeral service, which is set to take place at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 2 p.m. Friends can visit the family from 1–2 p.m. at the funeral home, which provides a time for loved ones to come together, share memories, and find comfort in one another’s presence. Following the service, interment will occur at Tyner Cemetery in Chattanooga, where Patty will be laid to rest among those who loved her.
As friends and family gather to honor Patty, many will reflect on the impact she had on their lives. Stories of her kindness, laughter, and unwavering support will surely come to light – a reminder of how she embodied the values of family loyalty and community spirit. Those who knew her will continue to share memories while supporting one another in their grief.
In addition to Patty’s passing, the local community has experienced the loss of other beloved figures in recent days, including Peggy Whitmire Sims, who passed away on October 18, 2024, at the age of 81, and Michael “Mike” Reagan, who died on the same day at 69.
