Chattanooga’s Food Inspection Scores Are In!

Hey there, food fans of Chattanooga! It’s that time again when we dive into the latest scores from our local restaurants and eateries. As much as we enjoy noshing at our favorite spots, it’s crucial to make sure they’re keeping things clean and safe. The health departments from Hamilton, Catoosa, and Walker Counties are out and about, inspecting food service establishments two times a year. They’re grading on a 100-point scale, and any place that doesn’t make the cut has to be reinspected. Spoiler alert: some businesses have some work to do!

Low Scores Raise Eyebrows

Let’s kick things off with the scores for the week ending November 5th. Unfortunately for Charlie’s Lounge on Dayton Pike, it’s a tough pill to swallow with a score of 80. Some sanitation standards just didn’t meet the mark. For instance, they had a non-functioning cold water faucet at the kitchen hand-washing sink and soap was MIA. Not to mention, multiple machines weren’t sanitizing properly and there were some food items not properly date-marked. Yikes! Here’s hoping they get things spick and span for their next inspection.

Following closely behind is Thai Esan and Mango Sushi in Fort Oglethorpe with a score of 84. They faced some issues with food storage, including raw eggs being stored over ready-to-eat sauces. Not ideal, right? It’s worth mentioning that several items didn’t come with proper date markings either. That could lead to some confusion at chow time!

Then we have Tru, located on Alabama Highway, also scoring a 84. A lack of hand-drying provisions at their sink made the list, along with improper food storage—like personal items of employees being stored above customers’ food. Come on, folks! We can do better than that!

Scores That Shine

Now, let’s celebrate the successes! Several establishments nailed it this week by scoring in the high 90s or even a perfect 100! Bear Trace Golf Course, Big Chicken, and Waffle House each achieved the coveted perfect score of 100.

Bear Trace Golf Course is not just a great spot to tee off, but also a shining example of cleanliness. Alongside them, Big Chicken and Waffle House have proven that tasty food can also come with top-notch health standards.

Other notable spots include 423 Taco, Asheville Dispensary, and Opa! who soared high with a score of 99. They’re surely on the right path, keeping their kitchens clean and patrons happy!
