Chattanooga’s Food Scene: Scores and Safety Insights from Latest Health Inspections

Hey there, Chattanooga! It’s that time again where we take a peek at how our favorite local eateries fared during their health inspections. Keeping our food safe and tasty is a top priority, and the good folks at the Hamilton County, Catoosa County, and Walker County health departments are on top of it, inspecting food service establishments twice a year.

Scores are In!

For the week ending November 19, 2024, the scores are in, and let’s just say, there are some surprises. The establishments are graded on a 100-point scale, and those that struggle with critical standards get a chance to shine again on reinspection. Remember, these scores are the results of inspections and won’t account for any on-the-spot improvements made during the inspection. Here’s what you need to know:

Slightly Lower Scores

Starting with the lower scores, we have:

  • Noodles & Pho at 81 (5450 Highway 153, Suite 140): They faced issues like an employee working with an uncovered burn, improper sanitizer levels, and a messy freezer—yikes! Cleanliness is key, and we hope they’ll bring their A-game next time.
  • Burger King scored 88 (6404 Ringgold Road): There were some food safety hiccups, like not discarding cut leafy greens past their time and a bathroom cleaner being dangerously close to food items. Let’s keep those fries golden and safe!
  • Mi Casita with a score of 89 (3029 Rossville Blvd.): They forgot to date-mark cooked food and left cooked items cooling at room temperature. Always best to keep things chilled, team!

On a Positive Note

Now, let’s not forget the remarkable scores that some places achieved!

  • Good Eats BBQ came in strong at 90 (1817 Market St.)—a delicious choice for BBQ lovers!
  • Topping the charts, we have places like Baskin Robbins (99), KFC (99), and Outback Steakhouse (99). That’s some impressive food hygiene people! Everyone loves a great scoop or a hearty meal without worrying about health standards.
  • The 107 and friends achieved perfection with a shiny score of 100! This includes establishments like McDonald’s (2017 Gunbarrel Road) and Wine Down Bistro (9447 Bradmore Lane, Suite 101). Hats off to them for setting the bar high!

What Do These Scores Mean?

These inspection scores are part of an ongoing effort to keep all of us safe while we indulge in our favorite foods. If you ever feel concerned about the cleanliness or safety at a food establishment, the health departments encourage you to voice those concerns. Here’s whom to call:

  • Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department: 423-209-8110
  • Catoosa County Health Department: 706-406-2030
  • Walker County Health Department: 706-639-2574

Wrapping It Up

In short, our local food scene is bustling as ever, with many spots achieving great scores! As you enjoy your next meal at one of these restaurants, keep in mind these scores reflect their commitment (or lack thereof) to food safety. Let’s continue supporting our local gems with our wallets while keeping an eye on cleanliness and safety!
