Chattanooga High School Seniors Shine as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists Are Announced

Exciting News for Chattanooga High School Seniors!

Hey there, Chattanooga! We’ve got some fantastic news making waves around our community that is sure to inspire both students and parents alike. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) just announced the names of over 16,000 Semifinalists in this year’s 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, and guess what? Several bright stars from our very own area are included in this prestigious list!

A Great Opportunity Awaits

These academically talented high school seniors now have the chance to compete for a slice of the dough, with about 6,870 National Merit Scholarships up for grabs, totaling nearly $26 million. Can you believe it? That’s a lot of financial support for college education! To be considered for one of these coveted Merit Scholarship awards, Semifinalists must fulfill certain requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Fortunately, around 95% of these Semifinalists are expected to achieve Finalist status, and nearly half of those will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the notable title of Merit Scholar.
