In a dramatic chase that unfolded in the early hours of Monday, March 18, 2024, a man identified as Thomas Claxton, 28, led Hamilton County deputies on a high-speed pursuit across Chattanooga. Claxton reportedly crashed his vehicle into a garage and attempted to hide inside the property before he was eventually arrested by the Sheriff’s Office.

Suspect Identified: Charges Laid

Thomas Claxton is now facing multiple charges, including evasion of arrest, aggravated kidnapping, burglary, and driving under the influence. Additional charges for possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as traffic violations such as speeding and running stop signs, are also pending against him. Notably, there were two people with Claxton in the car during the pursuit, as indicated in a sworn law enforcement affidavit.

Origin of the High-Speed Chase

According to reports, a deputy spotted Claxton’s car at a Mapco gas station near North Hickory Valley Road and Highway 58 around 3:30 a.m. The vehicle was reportedly recognized as being regularly parked outside a residence known for its involvement in criminal and narcotic-related activities. The chase began when Claxton failed to respond to the deputy’s attempt to pull him over, following the observation of a broken tag light on his vehicle.

An End to the Pursuit

The high-speed pursuit ended when Claxton’s vehicle crashed into a garage. Following the crash, he tried to evade the authorities by hiding inside the garage. However, his attempts proved futile as he was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
