It’s with heavy hearts that the community of Chattanooga, Tennessee, remembers the life of Rodney “Red” Eldridge, who peacefully passed away on September 10, 2024, at a local hospital. Born on February 26, 1963, to Nathaniel Eldridge and Aldee Moore Clark, Rodney was well-known for his vibrant spirit and unwavering faith throughout his life.
Rodney was not just a member of the World’s Church of the Living God but a faithful pillar within that community. His faith was particularly remarkable as he bravely fought back after suffering a stroke at a young age. For more than 30 years, he remained steadfast, trusting in God and believing he would walk again. This resilience inspired many around him, and his story of hope will continue to resonate with those who knew him.
Rodney leaves behind a beautiful legacy, including his beloved daughter, Tiffany Eldridge, and two precious grandchildren, Arieas Jarmaine Cox II and Aaliyah Jakayla Eldridge. While he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Janice Kelley, his spirit will forever be cherished by his remaining siblings: James Eldridge, Nathan Eldridge, Nathaniel Kelley, Brilland Kelley, Heather Eldridge, Cheryl Eldridge, Angel Etchison, and Carla (Anthony) Bentley. His stepfather, Milton (Carolyn) Clark, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will also hold his memory dear.
The community is invited to come together to celebrate Rodney’s life during a memorial service that is set to take place on Saturday, September 28, at 3 p.m. This heartfelt gathering will be held in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, located at 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga. It’s a chance for friends, family, and members of the community to share stories, memories, and the light that Rodney brought into their lives.
Rodney isn’t the only cherished member of the community we’ve recently lost. Just a few days after his passing, on September 20, Marjorie C. Spann, aged 94, left this world at Brightmoor Nursing Home in Griffin, Georgia. Known as a loving mom, mammy, granny, and great-grandmother, Marjorie’s warmth touched so many lives within Chattanooga.
In addition, Mabel Phillips Levi, at 99, passed away on September 22, and Myrtle Nave Cooley, born in Chattanooga and aged 92, followed on September 23. Each of these individuals, like Rodney, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those around them, and their lives will be honored and remembered deeply.
During a time that can be difficult for many, it’s essential to remember the beautiful moments shared and the love that these individuals brought to the community. As Chattanooga navigates through this period of loss, we also celebrate the lives lived and the connections formed. It serves as a reminder of how important community is, and how our shared experiences create lasting bonds.
Rodney “Red” Eldridge may have left this Earth, but his legacy of faith, resilience, and love will continue to shine in the hearts of many, reminding us of the blessings life offers, even in the face of adversity.
