CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The vibrant city of Chattanooga recently played host to the Giant-Screen Cinema Association Conference, welcoming a remarkable gathering of filmmakers, producers, and cinema enthusiasts from around the globe. The conference took place at the city’s iconic IMAX Theater, known for its towering screens and immersive viewing experiences.
“This is our largest event, and we bring delegates from all over the United States and many foreign countries,” said Jim Remar, Chairman of the Giant-Screen Cinema Association (GSCA). This annual gathering has become a significant event for the cinema industry, giving filmmakers a unique platform to learn about industry trends, share best practices, and network with fellow creatives.
For over three years now, Chattanooga has rolled out the red carpet for filmmakers, making the city a hub of innovation and creativity in cinema. The event not only provides insight on cutting-edge technology but also offers attendees a sneak peek at upcoming movies. Remar emphasizes the importance of engaging the audience in today’s world, where home streaming has become the norm. “We want to talk to the individuals about the experience,” he noted, highlighting the need to get people excited about going out to enjoy films in theaters.
One of the highlights of the IMAX Theater, as shared by Corey Cobb, Director of IMAX Operations, is its state-of-the-art projection technology. “We still, at this time, have one of the best state-of-the-art projection technologies,” Cobb shared, proudly pointing out the theater’s impressive screen size, which measures 89 feet wide by 67 feet tall. “We are the largest screen in Chattanooga.” This fact alone makes it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists.
As the world emerges from the shadow of the pandemic, Cobb noted a shift in content offerings at the IMAX. “Following COVID, we started doing a lot more Hollywood content,” he explained. This fresh approach has attracted a diverse audience, reinforcing the IMAX experience as something truly special. “The IMAX experience is just, incredible. To see a film in IMAX far surpasses a lot of things you will see in a multiplex,” Cobb concluded enthusiastically.
The IMAX Theater in Chattanooga is not only about movies—it also strives to create a welcoming environment for everyone. The team is passionate about sharing the love of cinema and the magic of storytelling with the community. With events like the GSCA conference, they encourage dialogue about what the future holds for filmmakers and the industry as a whole.
As far as what’s next, the screen has been buzzing with new films. The theater is committed to continuing to provide an exciting and culturally engaging experience for everyone who walks through its doors. “We want people to feel the thrill of cinema and embark on journeys that only films can offer,” added Cobb.
If you’re as excited as we are about the future of film in Chattanooga, there are plenty of ways to stay connected with the happenings at the IMAX Theater. Be sure to follow their social media for updates on upcoming films, events, and more.
